Itinerary
- Day 1
Kigali to Musanze
Your guide and driver pick you up from your hotel in Kigali to start the day with a city tour. You'll visit the genocide memorial site, then walk through both the old and new parts of the city. After that, it's a 2-hour drive to Musanze, Rwanda's second largest town, where the five volcanic Virunga mountains create the backdrop. Later in the afternoon, head to Iby'lwacu cultural village to see authentic Rwandan culture and traditions firsthand.

Golden Monkey Trek
After breakfast, transfer to the park headquarters to begin your Golden Monkey trek in the Virunga mountains. The trek typically takes 1-2 hours and is considered easy terrain. Once you find them, you'll have about 1 hour to spend with these rare monkeys that live only in this range. Back at the lodge for lunch, then you can optionally visit the colorful Musanze market in the afternoon to browse local produce and handicrafts. Later, visit the Ellen DeGeneres Campus of the Dian Fossey Gorilla Fund, a gorilla conservation and research center.

Mountain Gorilla Trek
Get up early for breakfast before heading to the park headquarters with your packed lunch. You'll receive a briefing on gorilla encounter safety and conduct rules. Then it's time to enter the forest to search for mountain gorillas. The search can take anywhere from 2 to 6 hours depending on where the gorillas are moving that day. Once located, you'll have a maximum of 1 hour in their presence.

Departure
Rise early for breakfast and check out from the lodge. Transfer back to Kigali city for some shopping at local markets where you can pick up souvenirs and gifts. Later in the day, head to the airport for your flight home.
