Overall, the itinerary was excellent as it provided a very good cross-section of Vietnamese culture, food, and history. The guides were knowledgeable with some having a better command of English than others. I would recommend that the guides have some method of standing out in a crowd (colored vest, flag on a stick). Often, as a tourist, we stop to take pictures while the guide moves along, then it becomes difficult to find them again in a crowd. Also, someday it would be nice if the guide had a bluetooth microphone where members of the tour can listen in over their phones. This way, the tourist can stop to take pictures while still listening to the guide. Often I missed some of what the guide was saying only because I wanted to pause and take a photo. The meals were excellent. What is there not to like about Vietnamese food? Finally, the accommodations were mostly excellent, with the exception of 2 locations; Hanoi and Saigon. We booked 4 star hotels. In Hanoi, the original itinerary had us stay in the Lion Boutique Hotel, but we were switched over to the Grand Cititel Hanoi Hotel. Though the lobby and dining area of the Grand Cititel was made to look like a 4 star, the rooms were less than a 2 star. The walls were dirty, my second room was extremely small, and there was an ant nest in the wall shelf of my second room. I have video of ants crawling in my coffee cup after I finished a coffee. It was horrible to say the least. Then in Saigon, initial indication was that we stay in the Happy Life Grand Hotel, only to be put into a Ramada, of which Ramada's do not have a great reputation in North America. Our Ramada in Saigon did not have great reviews and should be offered as a 3 star rather than 4. Apart from that, the trip was amazing. Sa Pa was beautiful as was Ha Long Bay. The cities had much to offer. If anyone is considering a trip to Vietnam, I would recommend it.

The tour was excellent. The organization was brilliant with pick-ups always on time and adjustments made to our benefit in the case of changing weather conditions. The hotels were all comfortable and breakfasts generally good. The tour guides were all very good and it was great that they were local people with an in-depth knowledge and good stories of each place. The choice of restaurants for the included lunches was also great with a variety of food on offer. The itineraries were well put together and again were flexible in the order of visiting the attractions each day to suit local conditions. A good mix of activities too : boat trips, bikes, hikes : and water was always provided.

We trusted tourradar after our Japan trip. But won't be after this. We booked 5 star tour just to have a nice cruise in Halong bay. Advertised to have freshest sea food. But we didn't. It said we get to visit a floating fish market. Didn't happen either. Air port transfer was given regardless we arrived earlier. That was great. But no one was there to pick us up with the name board as notified. We walked from one end to the other then waited. After about 10 mins I called the tour representative. It was answered asking which airport ? I knew the tour was not very organised from my initial conversations. I had to keep sending the same info couple of times. They do not keep a record. Eventually someone walked up to us and we were dropped at our hotel. After 3 days we checked in to the hotel that tour booked. It was rated 5 star. What we should have checked was whether we get a 5 star room. They booked the cheapest 5 star hotel in the area and the cheapest room in the hotel. Cheapest room doesn't get 5 star service or resources. It's like 3.5 stars. We were in a 4 star hotel and their service was way better than the 5 star hotels they booked. We were all over the place.Collecting people in the morning, took a while. Apart from finding cheapest hotels in star category, they haven't given much thought about accommodation locations. If they booked us closer together it would have been much more convenient and pleasant. During Sapa trip we didn't have an English speaking guide. We were in a shuttle with many people and the driver did not speak English. It was a very long trip to Sapa. One of our group got sick but we had no way of communicating. Finally one of our group members asked the driver to stop using msny sign .
