- MSMichelle· August 6th, 2025Osman was the perfect guide to our trip. We were a smaller group and I and a few others had a hard time walking up certain areas, going at the group speed, etc (it was also in the summer with extreme heat, which was not his fault at all). He made sure we were not left behind and constantly checked in to see if we were doing ok. The trip was amazing, we went literally everywhere. Everyday there was some things planned and if we had to slightly rearrange things to account for travel time/heat/etc Osman was great at keeping us in the loop and making sure we were ok with the changes. One time my shower did not work and I mentioned it (I was with two others so just used their shower, it wasn't a big issue for me). Osman made sure by the time we got back for the day it was repaired and I was comfortable with the room. I would definitely take a tour with this group again and if you are lucky to get Osman know that you are in for a great time :)Show moreTomato Travel commented on this reviewThank you so much for your kind words! - ABAmelia U· June 1st, 2025I had a very good experience with Tomato travel agency, my group was very nice and the guide, mr Aki, was very helpful. My suggestion is that it would be beneficial for the guide and the group to use the listeners boxes to be able to hear the important information the guide is giving. The itinerary had the best 10 places to see. I am glad that I was part of the trip and group. Thank youShow moreTomato Travel commented on this reviewHi Amelia, Thank you so much for your kind words. - Richard· December 9th, 2024There were a lot of wonderful sites, temples, castles and gardens to view. Bus ride between places can be a bit long (2-4 hours). Would love to have spent more time in Kyoto, especially on our own. Could have done without seeing the festival floats. They were nice for the first 10 minutes, but didn't warrant the 1 hour to view all of the floats' mechanical movements. Description says there is a lot of walking, but didn't say that that would include steep embankments and lots of stairs. Overall a wonderful overview of Japan and Japanese culture. Would recommend to anyone even remotely interested in going to Japan.Show moreTrip date: November 2024

However day 1 when we met our engaging and knowledgeable tour leader I knew I'd chosen the right tour. There is no way you can see all the sites we saw by yourself in 2 weeks. Yes, there were some long rides on the bus and a couple of late nights but hey, we saw a lot. - AHAgnes· October 31st, 2024I like the tour very much. The group was 31 people and everyone was always on time. Our tour director Masa was good. The program was excellent so many beautiful places to see! I would have been happier with more historical and cultural information ahead of the days. Few hotels were run dow old and dirty and the beds were extremely hard with only one pillow.Show moreTrip date: September 2024
- Colin· September 16th, 2024A good overall experience in the sights and experiences of modern-day Japan. The tour guide, Osman, was knowledgeable, competent, pleasant, and willing to deviate from the standard tour destination lineup if circumstances warranted. When a typhoon hit the Tokyo area causing the cancellation of our Bullet Train ride, he was able to re-schedule it on another day and took us elsewhere. When the weather reports indicated Mt. Fuji's peak area would be visible that day (not clouded over) he took a vote while we were on the bus and dropped the planned destination in favor of going directly to the celebrated site to experience it in its full glory. He also tried to compensate for my mobility impairment with advice and options, as well as interactions and explanations to the Japanese staff of the hotels. Being the only dedicated photographer in the group of better-moving members was also a challenge for both of us --- every time I stopped to take a picture, I'd look up to discover the rest of the tour making a turn a block away and I had to rush to play 'catch-up', which came to be physically wearing. The bus driver was outstandingly competent on the narrow roads and unfailingly helpful, having my stored rollator ready whenever I emerged from the air-conditioned bus. I wasn't expecting the heat (33'+C ... 90+F) or the thick humid air (Canadian, after all), but the buildings in many destinations and all hotels were air-conditioned (with individual room controls), and I adopted the practice of many Japanese men of carrying a washcloth in my pocket to wipe the sweat off my forehead. A neck fan and sweat bands helped as well. An unforgettably intense and informative experience, which we will almost certainly repeat someday.Show moreTrip date: August 2024

- DDeborah· June 17th, 2024We booked via Luxury Escapes for a Japan Tour, visiting Tokyo to the West Coast and then down to Kyoto, Hiroshoma and finishing at Osaka. We were told the accommodation would be 4-5 star - it ranged from hostel to 3 star. We were told the tour guide would be a passionate English speaking guide - her English wasn't fluent and we had hours of no information (except where the toilets were and UniQlo at each stop). Unfortunately for us and many others on our tour the experience wasn't what we had expected.Show moreTrip date: May 2024

Asked on July 2nd, 2025How long are the bus rides from each of the tour destinations to next one? What is the longest bus ride? Do you drive through curvy mountainous roads too? I have motion sickness so I always need to sit in front of the bus.
- Tomato TravelOperator•Written July 2025
The distances between destinations vary, but we've designed the itinerary with your comfort in mind, so you shouldn't expect to spend excessively long periods on the coach. For your information, the longest single route on the trip is approximately 259 km from Kyoto to Kanazawa. Please also note that the journey from Kanazawa through Shirakawa-go to Takayama and Matsumoto is in a mountainous region, so you can expect some elevation and curves along the way. Regarding seating, we will certainly do our best to arrange a seat at the front for you, though please understand we are unable to guarantee the availability.

Asked on June 27th, 2025Are that available on your site during the booking for the trip? If not when do you estimate we'll get the final list with hotels for the October 28th trip? Are we using same bus and same guide all over the trip? On day 5, it's mentioned starting from Osaka, but on day 4 we end in Okayama! On day 12 we move to Tokyo by train, are we using same bus for transportation to and from train stations? In Tokyo, on first day are we using same bus for the visit? During the trip, do we have any chance (as an extra activity, maybe) to enjoy a Japanese "Onsen"?
- Tomato TravelOperator•Written June 2025
Pre-tour accommodation: As October is peak season in Japan, we are unfortunately unable to assist with pre-tour accommodation bookings. We highly recommend booking your hotel at your earliest convenience, as availability can be very limited during this time. For the first night of the tour, we plan to stay at Odysis Suites Osaka Airport Hotel. However as we are still finalising the tour the accommodation is subject to change. We will send you the finalised document approximately 2-week prior to the departure date. Bus usage throughout the tour: We will conclude Day 4 in Okayama and depart from Okayama on Day 5. Onsen experience and optional tour: Unfortunately, an onsen experience is not included in the main activities of the group tour. You are welcome to enjoy an onsen on your free days.

Asked on June 12th, 2025Would it be possible to 1. arrange airport pickups and transfers to hotel on arrival? 2. Also, I have knee issues, so before booking I would like to know how much walking there is and whether there are steps and climbs and if there are, how much and whether it would be possible for me to skip those parts, and perhaps stay on flat / lower ground. 3. Would it be possible to arrange some assistance if needed with suitcase / luggage handling - happy to pay a tip. 4. Would I be able to see a detailed itinerary before I book. 5. Would I be able to request standard beds - not low to the ground, Futon style beds 6. Would I be able to request walk in showers in the bathrooms if possible rather than over the bath showers?
- Tomato TravelOperator•Written June 2025
This tour involves a moderate level of physical activity, including considerable walking and climbing stairs. Many destinations will not have elevator access. As this is a group tour, the itinerary moves at a collective pace. Airport transfers can be arranged at an additional cost. Luggage assistance is limited - tour guide and driver will help load luggage onto coach. All group tour hotels have Western style standard beds. Walk-in showers cannot be guaranteed in Japanese hotels.

Traveler•Written June 2025Could you please advise how much the airport transfers cost? I want to know details like: 1. How many hours of walking is done per day on average? 2. How much stairs and inclines / climbs are there? Is it a lot? And can I avoid them if I want - e.g. if there are steps to shrines and temples, can I just stay in the bus or around the place until the rest of the group finishes looking inside? 3. Can you send me a detailed itinerary with specifics about daily activities, transportation methods, and time spent at each location?
- Tomato TravelOperator•Written June 2025
Airport transfer costs are AUD 150.00 per person, per way (minimum two passengers). If traveling alone, the cost would be AUD 300.00 per way. The tour involves 5 to 6 hours of walking per day with steep stairs and uneven surfaces. It is rated as moderate physical activity and may not be suitable for someone with mobility limitations. We recommend considering a tour better suited to your needs.

Asked on May 29th, 2025Can you please update and confirm that your itinerary is accurate. Also, whats the "shoulder season" additional cost for?
- Tomato TravelOperator•Written May 2025
We apologise for the error in our tour description. This tour does not include the bullet train from Osaka to Kyoto. However, we do include a bullet train journey from Mt. Fuji to Tokyo on Day 12, which is a longer ride, allowing you to enjoy the experience more. Additionally, regarding the seasonal surcharge, the cost for the Shoulder Season will be AU$300 per person.

Traveler•Written May 20251) Whats the additional "Shoulder season" cost about? 2) Is the Bullet Train cost included in the tour price? 3) Is the tour scheduled for Aug 26th confirmed?
- Tomato TravelOperator•Written May 2025

This surcharged is applies to help cover the operation fee. Yes. The bullet train ticket is included in the tour. Yes. The tour is confirmed to be departed.

Traveler•Written May 2025Is the Private accommodation for the entirety of the tour? How many people are in a group usually?
- Tomato TravelOperator•Written June 2025
We provide private rooms for all our passengers. For solo travellers, this means you will have a single room, and a single supplement charge will apply. Please note that we do not typically pair solo travellers to share a room. If you prefer to avoid the single supplement, you would need to arrange to travel with a companion. Our popular 15-day Japan Discovery group tour has a maximum capacity of 40 passengers, and the actual group size can vary by departure date. However, we've never received any complaints regarding the group size, even during peak season, as our professional guides are experienced at managing larger groups to ensure a smooth operation and enjoyable journey for everyone.

Traveler•Written May 2025Slight concern re size of group up to 40people. I am mid 60s and hubby mid 70s. Is 40 the norm? Or could you recommend alternative trip that may be suitable?
- Tomato TravelOperator•Written May 2025
While our standard group tour can accommodate up to 40 passengers, please note that this is the maximum capacity and the actual group size may vary. We have consistently received positive feedbacks, even during peak season with 40 passengers group. Alternatively, if you are interested in a smaller group experience, we also recommend exploring our premium group tour Aromas of Japan tour, which has a maximum smaller group size of just 20 passengers.

- Tomato TravelOperator•Written April 2025
