  1. Day 1

    La Paz

    After landing at La Paz Airport, you'll transfer to your accommodation and have the rest of the day to yourself. Since you're arriving at high altitude (about 11,900 feet), taking it easy is important. Drink lots of water, stick to light meals, and skip alcohol for now while your body adjusts to the altitude.

  2. Day 2

    La Paz

    You're heading out at 8 am for a full-day excursion to Tiwanaku, an ancient pre-Columbian ruins site about 1.5 hours from the city. The archaeological site sits surrounded by natural landscape, giving you a real sense of where this civilization once thrived. By 4 pm you'll head back to your accommodation.

  3. Day 3

    La Paz

    This day is yours to spend as you like. Walk through La Paz's old town at your own pace, check out local markets, grab lunch wherever looks good, or just wander the colonial streets and see what catches your interest.

  4. Day 4

    La Paz to Copacabana

    After checking out, you'll take a 3-hour bus to Copacabana on Lake Titicaca's shores. Once you arrive and check in, there's a hike to Kasanani Hill at 2:30 pm where you can see the Intikala temple and the Cathedral of the Virgen de Copacabana. The views from the summit are worth the effort before heading back for dinner.

    Isla del Sol

    An 8 am boat departure takes you to Isla del Sol's northern part, arriving at Challapampa by 10:30 am. You'll visit the Gold Museum and hike to the Inca Chincana Ruins, the Table of Stone, and the Sacred Rock. After lunch at the port, you'll boat to Yumani to see traditional reed boats, then hike through the village past Inca ruins and three sacred springs before watching sunset from the summit.

    Isla del Sol to La Paz to Uyuni

    After breakfast, you'll walk down to the port via a different route passing the ruins of the Palace of Polkokaina and the Temple of the Sun. By 11:30 am you're back in Copacabana, then it's a 3-hour bus ride to La Paz. From there, you'll board an overnight bus heading to Uyuni town.

  7. Day 7

    Uyuni

    You'll arrive in Uyuni in the morning and have breakfast before things get going. After midday, you're heading to Colchani village at the edge of the world's largest salt flat. You'll meet your 4WD driver and support team, grab lunch at a restaurant built on salt, then spend the afternoon exploring the otherworldly landscape. That night you'll sleep in a unique salt hostel where the walls and some beds are made of salt bricks.

  8. Day 8

    High Plateau and Desert

    Leaving the salt flat behind, you're heading toward the High Plateau and desert landscape. In the morning, you'll see the Anaconda River canyon, then drive through the Siloli Desert where wind and rain have created strange volcanic rock formations. Lunch is at Laguna Escondida, and you'll reach a communal hostel for dinner.

  9. Day 9

    San Pedro de Atacama

    An early start takes you through higher elevation desert and Puna landscape past Red and White lagoons full of wildlife, beneath white-topped mountains and volcanoes. Lunch is at a geothermal hot springs site, then you'll see the Sol de Mañana Geysers and Laguna Colorada where thousands of flamingos live. You'll cross into San Pedro de Atacama in Chile with a free afternoon to settle in.

    San Pedro de Atacama

    A very early pickup between 4:30 and 5 am gets you to the Geysers del Tatio, located in the world's driest and highest desert at 4,230 meters. You'll see geysers, fumaroles, and steaming craters showing the volcanic activity of the region. Breakfast comes with views of the geothermic field, then you'll stop at Machuca Village on the way back, arriving around midday.

    San Pedro de Atacama to Salta

    Heading to the bus station, you'll board a bus to Salta for a long scenic journey through interesting landscapes. You'll arrive in the afternoon and make your own way to your hostel. After checking in, the evening is free to rest and get oriented.

  13. Day 13

    Salta

    A full-day guided trip from Salta heads south through small towns and tobacco-growing areas before entering the Cafayate Gorge. You'll see dramatic rock formations like Devil's Throat, the Amphitheater, and the Castles. Once in Cafayate town, you'll visit a winery to taste torrontés wine, walk around town, then return through the gorge which looks completely different in the afternoon light.

    Salta to Puerto Iguazu

    You'll check out and transfer to Salta Airport for your flight to Puerto Iguazu. After arriving, you'll transfer to your hostel and check in. The rest of the day is for relaxing or exploring the town at your own pace.

  16. Day 16

    Puerto Iguazu

    Breakfast at 7:45 am before heading out for a full-day guided tour of Iguazú National Park on the Argentine side. You'll start at the Local Museum, then walk the Lower Trail to see multiple falls including Two Sisters and Hidden Fall. The Upper Trail has walkways above the major falls, then you'll take the Jungle Train to Devil's Throat station and walk along catwalks to see the spectacular Devil's Throat waterfall with its rainbows.

Your guide takes you to a panoramic viewpoint of the Argentine side, perfect for photos you couldn't get from the other side. You'll get close views of Floriano, Deodoro, Benjamin, and Santa Maria waterfalls. There's an optional stop at a Brazilian all-you-can-eat restaurant on the way back.

    You'll arrive in Rio de Janeiro and make your own way to your accommodation. After checking in, the rest of the day is free to rest and start exploring the city.

    After breakfast, your hotel picks you up between 8:00 and 8:30 am by mini-bus for a packed day of Rio's highlights. You'll stop at São Conrado to watch hang gliders land on the beach, then head to Tijuca Forest for a rainforest walk. Next is Christ the Redeemer for summit views, break for lunch in Santa Teresa (your cost), explore that neighborhood, then visit Lapa's colorful Escadaria Selaron steps before heading back with optional drop-off at Sugarloaf.

    Unfortunately, I didn't receive the link for immigration, and there was no way to withdraw Bolivian currency (it should have been stated at the Booking Confirmation that you can and must exchange money for Bolivian currency in San Pedro at a money exchange). My tour guide therefore had to lend me the money until we arrived in Uyuni! The hostel in San Pedro Aji Verde was very nice, but there were too many beds in the rooms (no room for backpacks; they were all on the floor, and you had to climb over them!) the hostel in Villa Mar the bed was Horrible to sleep like a hammock! salt hotel was great

      Correct, there are no departures, this is due to rain and snow season, the road between Salta and San Pedro can be closed in January, some days in June and July. Do you have a possible departure in February? There is also a blockout in Rio during Carnaval

      Does this mean we can't do this trip at all in January? I can change the day so we don't arrive on a Wednesday but I need to travel in January. Is there an alternative route?

      I can check with the provider but the problem is that it's the rain season and many times the route is closed.

      It's not possible to take the tour on January because you'll be arriving Rio on Carnaval and there is a Blackout for that.
