We loved the hikes we did, especially Valbona pass and the hike into the mountains from our place in Valbona. Our guide, Albi, was fantastic. He was very knowledgeable, engaging, and did his best to make sure all of us had a good time. He shared information about the culture of the area, history, and was happy to answer all of our questions. The only thing that I wish had been different was the last day, which was a long day of bus, boat and van driving back to Tirana. Albi did his best to make it as painless as possible but it was a lot of sitting! Not sure anything could have been done differently though, given that we were in a remote part of the country. Administratively, I think communication from Choose Balkans coild have been better from the outset about the need to carry our packs the whole way. We didn’t have a problem with it, but we also didn’t know til after we signed up that this was required. I found the itinerary difficult to understand at times.eg the distances to walk could be interpreted in 2 ways. The discription suitable for ages 9-90 is misleading, as the hikes are demanding. The hike on day 2 in Valbona , is rated difficult and only possible for the very fit, considering it is after the mountain pass of Theth to Valbone, which is tiring. The walks take you through ragged rocks, woodland paths and meadows and although tough at times with some long days the scenery thoroughly distracts you. We can organize airport transfer for 25 euros one way. On that day you can arrive back in Tirana around 19:30 -20:00 as it depends on traffic too. We would highly suggest to fly the next day just in case.

Excess Luggage: You will be carrying your belongings with you during the trek so we recommend you pack lightly. Any excess luggage can be stored in storage facilities in Tirana or you can ask the hotel in Tirana to store them for you. Mule or horse caravan can be arranged to carry heavy luggage from point to point and is available on request at a charge of 100 Euros per horse/mule per day. A horse can carry between 30 – 35 kg.

Luggage transfer is included only on the first and last day of the tour. Lauggage transportation while hiking is possible with an extra cost of 100 euros/day. Our recommondation wold back light for the hike. The extra lauggage we would recommend to store in Tirana either at your hotel or at the Luggage Store.

What to Wear for Hiking: Waterproof Boots or Shoes, Hiking Socks, Slippers, Thermic T-shirts/Shirts, Rainproof Jacket, Hat, Sunglasses. Food and Water: Water Bottle, Meals at guesthouses, Snacks and Energy Bars, Cash, Trash Bag. Aim to keep your backpack weight under 12kg.
