Very good tour, albeit the long stretch to Fes might be a little of a burden. Overall, it was an amazing, breath-taking desert experience! Kind and well-prepared tour guides, as well as our nice and helpful driver, Abdelaali!

We only had one week to spend in Morocco, but we picked the perfect itinerary out of sheer luck and the ingenuity of my wife. We selected a three-day trip from Marrakesh through the High Atlas Mountains to Erg Chigaga way out in the Sahara dunes with a bit of hesitation because it involved two fulls days on the road, but the journey was the real adventure. First of all, our driver, Khalil, was a fantastic person. He grew up in a small, Berber village, spoke five languages, and had an encyclopedic knowledge of the local customs and villages. He also had a great, laid back attitude and seemed to know everyone along the way. We drove up to the Tiz-n-Tichka pass (2,260 meters high) in the High Atlas, stopped in villages in Oued Ounila Valley, visited the fortified Ksar of Ait Benhaddou, cruised through Ouarzazate (the Hollywood of Morocco), and spent the first night in Zagora at the lavish Riad dar Sophia, where they graciously tolerated my awful French. The next day, we visited the Qu'ranic school in Tamegroute where we saw 12th century astrological drawings and visited the underground kasbah where nomadic families live in the summer months. The most amazing thing was reaching M'hamid, the last city before you literally drive off the map into the sand. We then left civilization altogether and wove our way for 40 miles through the sprawling dunes until we reached the tiny Bedouin tent enclave of Erg Chigaga at the base of a gigantic sea of dunes, where we went for a sunset camel ride. It was dead quiet and hauntingly beautiful, and we enjoyed excellent Moroccan cuisine with the four other tourists in Erg Chigaga. That's right, there were only four other tourists. For the final day, we took off through the dry bed of the Oued Iriki out onto the dry plane of the prehistoric Iriki Lake where we picked up fossils and marveled at the distant buttes on the Algerian border. We re-entered civilization through the gates of Foum-Zguid and stopped in Tazenakht to see how the Berber villagers weave carpets. Khalil took us back through the mountains to our final Riad in Marrakesh, and we missed his company immediately. I would highly recommend this trip and would be happy to answer questions about it.

We (3 adults, 2 children of 4 and 6 years) spent 3 wonderful days with Go Sahara Tours.Abdou, the boss gave us a reasonable price and we could even discuss with them to show us some extra rock carvings in Oukaimeden which I really recommend. Ait Ben-Haddou is worth to see and La petite Kasbaqh in Zagora is a very good place to spend a night. Moreover, watching the sunset in the Sahara is just priceless just like the camel ride there which everyone should try once. After crossing the sand and stone desert you can see the rock mountains which are similar to Navajo rocks in the United States but without tourists so you are the only one there during the day! The dried up lake Iriqui is wonderful and you can still collect some fossils there! I honestly recommend that company, above everything with our great tour guide, Rachid!
