  Overall the tour was very good, our driver Janica was competent and for most of the journey helpful and friendly, however for the first week my wife and I believed we were having to fit in with Janica’s itinerary rather than the tour itinerary, for example we were arriving at hotels at 2/3pm whilst there was still 4/3 hours of daylight available for sightseeing, in the meantime Janica was meeting family or friends after dropping us at the hotels! Day 2, although we had plenty of time we did not visit Sigiriya rock museum or gardens as requested with Prashadika Dilshani 27th July. Day 3, in the morning we visited the Sigiriya rock museum and went on the village tour! The boat ride was a complete waste of time we walked maybe 300 metres each way, we were rowed to the middle of a lake for NO apparent reason, other than our driver insisting we give the boatman a tip, this should be removed from the itinerary! We did NOT go to Pidurangala, despite researching the walk and advising Prashadika Dilshani that we only wished to do the initial and mid parts of the walk, Janica removed this from our itinerary, I questioned him about this and he had already decided that it was too much for us, WITHOUT consultation! In the afternoon we visited Kaudulla national park, the park was as expected, but we had to tour the park in a 25 year old jeep in poor condition, the cushions had no padding, so we were forced to stand most of the time, the vehicle had an issue with the starter motor and had to be ‘push started’ four times. Again this is a quality issue that requires addressing by BH Lanka tours, my understanding is that all safari tours are approx $72/$75, so we could have had a comfortable jeep for the same cost! Janica insisted we give the jeep driver a very generous tip, which was not deserved because the quality of the vehicle was substandard! Day 4 & 5, our stay was at the Amethyst resort, on 6th June I had requested with Prashadika Dilshani that we stay at the Amaya beach hotel, which he acknowledged however in the second tourist service voucher received 4th August this was changed to the Amethyst resort! I suspect that no quality assurance inspection was undertaken by BH Lanka tours, the Amethyst resort would NOT make a 2 star rating, the food was poor, the rooms were dirty and substandard, the hotel had NO atmosphere, the bar was empty both evenings! We walked to the Amaya beach hotel and they had plenty of rooms!! Day 6, we visited Polonnararuwa, then dropped at the hotel after lunch! Day 7, on this occasion Janica offered to take us to the cave temple, so we could determine if we could climb the steps to the cave, we declined, we went on to the Temple of the Tooth. Early afternoon we went to the ‘Cultural dance’ and we were then dropped at the hotel! Day 8, as per the itinerary we visited the botanical gardens then to the viewpoint and we expected to be dropped in Kandy but Janica strongly persuaded us that he would not get a parking space in Kandy and despite our disagreement he dropped us at the hotel mid afternoon! We got a taxi at our expense to and from the hotel and spent the late afternoon and early evening in Kandy. (there were no parking issues!). The remainder of the tour followed the printed itinerary! Had our driver followed the itinerary, arranged to provide a reasonable quality vehicle for the Kaudulla national park safari and had the Amaya beach hotel been of a similar quality to the other hotels on the tour then a higher rating would have been given.   Our Sri Lanka adventure with BH Lanka Tours was nothing short of unforgettable, and that was largely thanks to our incredible driver and guide, Nishantha. From the very first moment, he impressed us with his professionalism, warmth, and kindness. He was not only highly knowledgeable but also endlessly flexible, always eager to tailor the journey to what we wanted—whether it was pulling over to sample fresh local fruits, arranging the most authentic Ayurvedic massages, or simply sharing stories about Sri Lanka’s history and culture. Nothing was ever too much trouble, and his thoughtfulness made every day flow seamlessly. By the end, we didn’t just have a guide—we had a true friend. Saying goodbye was genuinely emotional. The tour itself was a dream. We were able to experience Sri Lanka’s breathtaking beauty in all its forms: cultural treasures, historic landmarks, stunning landscapes, and the thrill of spotting wildlife on safari. Every day felt like a new adventure. The hotels we stayed in were comfortable and of a high standard, and the food was simply out of this world. My partner, who is vegan, was especially delighted by the abundance of delicious plant-based options. Honestly, it was the best food we’ve ever had—not just on holiday, but anywhere! We are deeply grateful to Nishantha and to BH Lanka Tours for giving us such a meaningful and memorable journey. It was more than just a holiday—it was an experience we’ll treasure forever.   The itinerary was really good, busy couple of days and then some time out to relax. The scenery was exceptional misty mountains with waterfalls & tea plantations, grassy forests full of wildlife it was great to see so many wild elephants thriving. The safari’s were a highlight and then we had the opportunity to release some turtles a moment we won’t forget. We enjoyed the culture, the food, the villages and the history. Our tour guide was fabulous he couldn’t do enough for us and was quite flexible, thank you so much Aruna we loved our Sri Lankan adventure!

  Tour was great, but the communication from the tour guide could have been much better. We liked him and he was very polite. Also not happy when we asked him to show us a place where I could go for a massage that was specifically budget friendly. He took us to a place where I felt extreme pressure to have a massage which cost me $85!!!! We discovered a few days later the same massage for under $15!! Very unhappy about that, as being a Sri Lankan, he would have been well aware of the prices. Otherwise the tour itinerary and accommodation was great.

  This tour totally exceeded our expectations in every way. Sri Lanka is such a beautiful, diverse country and should be on everybody's travel list. Sideth our driver/guide was brilliant and very passionate about his country. He was an excellent, safe driver and always punctual, courteous and went out of his way to make sure we were OK. A highly recommended tour from two well traveled Kiwis.
