Wow what an amazing bucket list ticking experience. Thoroughly recommend CroisiEurope for this journey. Our ship the RV Lan Diep was perfect in all ways. The rooms are spacious and impeccably clean. We cruised from Ho Chi Minh to Siem Reap but the majority of the group had started in Hanoi and were spending three days in Siem Reap at the end. The staff are fantastic and the food was great. A large buffet breakfast with an egg station, freshly made beads fruits and the usual western breakfast offerings. Lunch was another buffet with various dishes that changed every day. A mixture of local and mainly western food. Dinner was either a set shared menu or you chose what you would like at lunch time. Plenty of food and the variety was good. We enjoy local flavours but the food was largely to western taste. Every day we went on interesting excursions and our local guides both the Vietnamese and Cambodian were excellent and very knowledgable. Particular highlight was the Sampan ride in Vietnam and riding in ox drawn carts in Cambodia in the rain (bring an umbrella if it’s rainy season). Things can change quickly on the River and so be prepared for small changes in the itinerary depending on the season and the water levels. Our cruise director Nicolas was incredible. Great guy, brilliant organisation and nothing was ever a problem. He, the guides and the onboard staff were all true professionals and really made our trip. The crew organise your visa for the border and so you don’t need to worry about that part of the journey. I would suggest buying a local SIM card if you want to stay connected as the wifi across the ship is really only accessible in the bar and not in your rooms. The majority of the time we had really good internet on the local SIM card. Come prepared for the heat and humidity, the rain on occasions and to be experience things you haven’t before. You don’t need to be fit for this trip but you do need to be able to negotiate stairs and uneven ground. When you arrive back at the ship they have ice cold towels and a cold drink which was a really nice touch. Finally, pack a smile and a good attitude and learn how to say good morning, how are you and thank you in Cambodian. The staff love it ?
