What people love about touring Portugal solo
- Best of Lisbon and The Azores: City and Nature Wonders
Excellent trip!!!! Both tour guides were top notch. Covered so many things! Didn’t feel like there was anything left to see. Hotels were great and the locations were perfect! Highly recommend this trip! You will not be disappointed!
- Highlights of Portugal
Entire trip was just ok, Organized properly and executed correctly. Trip showed highlights of the country.
- Best of Lisbon Tour (with Sintra, Évora and Cascais) - 5 Days in Portugal
The hotel had a great location and good breakfast buffet. The rooftop terrace was a plus! The only downfall was that the bathroom in the petit room was very small for my husband who is 6 feet. Perhaps it would be nice to offer other room options, even if it costs more. The tour guide was flexible, kind, an excellent driver, and fun. He took us to extra places which was special! The car services to and from the airport were prompt. It should’ve been made clear that we needed to buy our own tickets to things like the Jerome Monastery, Sao Jorge Castle and especially the Palacio Nacional de Pena. There were very openings for this place when we realized the day before we needed to get tickets. I would’ve purchased them in advance of the trip had I known and saved us aggravation with using the websites and getting times. Other than that, the trip was excellent and I would highly recommend your company! Thank you!!
What our customers ask about Portugal Tours for Solo Travelers
What is the typical single supplement cost for Portugal tours?
Solo travelers make up about a quarter to a third of Portugal tour participants according to recent data. On cultural excursions through Porto and Lisbon you'll typically find 3-4 solo travelers in groups of 12-15 people. The experience often creates lasting connections as one traveler noted: "Our group became close very quickly - there were several solo travelers and we all bonded over amazing experiences like wine tasting in the Douro Valley."
Which areas of Portugal are most solo traveler-friendly?
The sweet spots for solo travel fall in spring (April-May) and autumn (September-October). These months offer pleasant weather and smaller crowds at key sites like Sintra's Pena Palace and Porto's waterfront districts. Booking data points to September as the peak month for solo travelers likely due to the ideal weather and social atmosphere. Properties like the Pestana Bahia Praia Resort in the Azores see many solo guests during these quieter seasons.
Are there any single supplement charges on Portugal tours?
Portugal stands out as one of Europe's safer destinations particularly for those on guided tours. Well-located hotels like Vila Gale Porto and Tivoli Avenida Liberdade provide secure bases in busy central areas. Tour guides help navigate evening activities such as traditional Fado performances. One traveler's experience reflects the common sentiment: "I felt completely safe throughout the entire tour even during evening walks in Lisbon and Porto."
Which regions of Portugal are best suited for solo travelers?
The spring months of March through May and fall period of September through October work best for solo exploration. These seasons bring mild weather and manageable crowds at popular spots like Sintra and the Douro Valley. Booking records show September attracts the most solo visitors (28%) with May following at 22%. Hotels like Dom Pedro Lisboa and Porto Bay offer welcoming common spaces during these busy social seasons.
How do meals work for solo travelers on Portugal tours?
Tours typically mix scheduled activities with personal time giving you 2-3 free evenings each week. A typical day might start with a guided visit to Porto's São Bento Station followed by free time to wander the Ribeira district. As one reviewer put it: "The mix of guided tours and free time was perfect - enough structure to feel secure but plenty of freedom to explore and meet other travelers."
