What people love about touring China solo
- Real China Highlights
Outstandingly planed itineraries. Precisely timed tours, yet flexible enough for impromptu attractions enroute. Intercity transfers are either by overnight sleeper train, which save time for activities, or by bullet trains zooming through diversified landscapes instead of by air, so we can eye-witness many extraordinary and specular scenery of China, from great city to rural countryside. Our tour guides are absolutely fantastic. They are informative, helpful and will go above and beyond to fulfill all our requests.
- Discover China's Silk Road - 11 Days Private Tour
I had a wonderful time in China, traveling over the Christmas holidays under Discover China's Silk Road (private tour) program organized by Realistic Asia. It was an exciting and memorable trip, allowing me to tick off highlights after highlights on a daily basis, from the Great Wall in Mutianyu, to the Forbidden City in Bejing, from the impressive and jaw-dropping Terra Cotta warriors to the ancient city fortifications of Xi'An, from the pristine Li River and the towering limestone stacks flanking it in Guilin to the astoundingly colorful and bright skyline of Pudong in Shanghai at night, to mention a few. It was a 11-day tour, but I extended by four days to cover more and to have a few chill days to enjoy on my own. I was very pleased that everything went without a hitch, as per the promised itinerary. There was nothing to complain about-- the pick-ups, the transfers, the domestic flights and high speed train journeys (a must!), the friendly, helpful and knowledgeable guides, the hotels and the included meals were all commendable, and they all made for a delightful first-time visit to beautiful China. I was pleased to have made a decision to travel in December (the cold withstanding, particularly in Beijing), which is a low season, as it allowed me to avoid the hordes prevalent in other popular travel seasons, which made for a stress-free traveling experience! I recommend this tour!
- A Journey China With Yangtze River Cruise in 11 days- Private Tour
We had the most amazing 11-day tour of China with Realistic Asia. A huge thank you to our agent, Long Pham, for his outstanding service. He was always quick to answer our questions and checked on us constantly during the trip. We felt so well taken care of! The tour guides were excellent, and we truly felt like royalty. A standout moment was when Long adjusted our schedule to include a visit to the Shanghai Zoo to see the pandas, at no extra cost. It was a fantastic experience! We will 100% be using Realistic Asia for our future travels and are happily recommending them to everyone. Thank you for a memorable adventure! Serhiy
What our customers ask about China Tours for Solo Travelers
What's the best time of year for solo travelers to join a China tour?
Spring (April-May) and Fall (September-October) offer the most pleasant travel conditions with manageable temperatures and large numbers of fellow solo adventurers. During these peak months solo travelers make up 50-60% of tour participants. A recent TourRadar traveler noted "I went in September and there were 6 other solo travelers in my group of 15 making it easy to connect and explore places like the Mutianyu Great Wall together."
Which cities in China are most solo traveler-friendly on guided tours?
Beijing Shanghai and Xi'an stand out as the most welcoming cities for solo travelers. Each offers a good mix of famous landmarks and social settings. The Muslim Quarter in Xi'an and French Concession in Shanghai let travelers explore independently during free time while still feeling secure. As one TourRadar participant said "As a solo traveler I felt completely comfortable exploring the hutongs of Beijing and evening markets in Shanghai with guidance from our tour leader."
How social are the group tours in China for solo travelers?
The group dynamic on China tours naturally brings people together with solo travelers making up 40-60% of most groups. Tours create natural bonding moments through shared activities like dumpling-making in Xi'an tea ceremonies and group meals. A TourRadar guest shared "The group was very social and the guides were excellent at bringing everyone together especially during the Huizhou village homestay and shared meals at places like the Novotel Beijing Xin Qiao."
How much free time is typically available for solo exploration on China group tours?
Tours usually set aside 2-3 hours daily for independent activities particularly in the evenings. Hotels like the Novotel Beijing Xin Qiao place you close to key attractions for easy exploring. A TourRadar participant shared "I appreciated having free evenings to explore places like the Bund in Shanghai or join optional activities with other solo travelers from the group."
How do meals work for solo travelers on China group tours?
The meal setup includes daily breakfast at accommodations like the Shanghai Metropolo Jinjiang plus several shared dining experiences featuring local dishes. A TourRadar guest commented "As a solo traveler I loved the group dining experiences - from dumplings in Xi'an to Peking duck in Beijing it was a great way to socialize and try authentic dishes without worrying about ordering alone."
