Visit the Vatican Museums first thing on day 2 with pre-booked tickets to skip the long lines. End your day exploring the Jewish Quarter before dinner in lively Trastevere.
- Days 3-4

Stay in the lovely town of Montecatini. Take a trip to Florence to see Michelangelo's David and the Duomo. One visitor shared: "The Tuscan farm dinner excursion was a highlight - learning to make pasta while drinking local wine created memories we'll never forget." Visit Pisa early on day 4 before tourist crowds pick up.

Cinque Terre & Genoa
- Days 6-7
Lake Maggiore & Swiss Border
- Days 8-9

14 Day Italy Itinerary, incl. Rome and Venice
Italian wonders unfold over 14 days, visiting 7 cities including Rome, Florence, and Venice. Participate in migrant-led walks in Rome, Cinque Terre hiking, and Lake Como cruises. Around $280 per day includes hotels, breakfasts, and local transport.
- Days 1-2
Rome
Give yourself two full days to explore the Eternal City. Book Colosseum and Vatican Museum tickets through their official websites well before your trip. A traveler shares: "Getting Vatican tickets ahead of time was crucial - the lines can be 3+ hours long in peak season." Start your first morning with a migrant-led walking tour for local insights, then spend the afternoon at the Roman Forum. Use your second day for the Vatican and Trastevere.
- Days 3-4
Montepulciano
- Days 5-7
Florence
Stop in Siena on your way to Florence. On your first evening, walk to Piazzale Michelangelo for sunset views. Plan to arrive by 7:30 PM in summer for optimal lighting. Spend one day exploring the historic center and another visiting museums. Book your Uffizi and Accademia tickets at least a month ahead, especially for summer visits.
- Days 8-9
Cinque Terre
- Days 10-11
Lake Como
- Days 12-14
Venice
Finish your trip with three nights in Venice. It's a 3.5-hour train ride from Como. Take a morning walking tour to get your bearings, then explore the narrow calli on your own. One reviewer recommends: "Visit Rialto Market early, around 8 AM, before the crowds arrive. For the best value gondola ride, gather a group of 6 to split the €80 cost."
14 Day Italy Itinerary, incl. Rome and Venice
A grand 14-day Italian tour covers 11 cities, from Rome's Colosseum to Venice's Grand Canal. Take in Florence's Uffizi Gallery, cycle Lucca's medieval walls, hike Cinque Terre's trails, and cruise Lake Como. Includes 9 breakfasts and centrally located accommodations for approx. $340 per day.
- Days 1-2
Rome to Florence
Start your trip in Rome and visit the Colosseum early in the morning to beat the crowds. "Getting to the Forum by 8:30 AM made all the difference - we actually had space to take photos without tourists in every shot." Take a quick afternoon train (1.5 hours) to Florence and get settled in the historic center.
- Days 3-4
Florence
Spend a full day exploring Florence's art collections. Book your Uffizi tickets online 2-3 months ahead for a 9 AM entry before tour groups arrive. The Accademia is less crowded after 4 PM. A practical note: "The steps of Piazzale Michelangelo get slippery when wet. Bring shoes with good grip for the climb up, especially if visiting at sunset."
- Days 5-6
Lucca & Pisa
Take a train to the medieval city of Lucca. Rent bikes near the station to cycle the city walls. It's a great way to get your bearings. Plan a day trip to Pisa (30 minutes by train) to see the Leaning Tower. Book your climbing tickets in advance as they often sell out. A visitor notes: "The morning light hits the marble facades beautifully around 9 AM - much better for photos than midday."
- Days 7-8
Cinque Terre Base
Stay in La Spezia to explore the five villages. Get the Cinque Terre Card for unlimited train travel between towns. Start your coastal hikes early to avoid the heat. As one traveler suggests: "Start the Vernazza to Monterosso trail by 8 AM latest. It gets brutally hot and crowded by 11." Take some ferry rides to see the villages from the water.
- Days 9-10
Asti & Wine Country
Take a 4-hour train ride north to Asti. The area is known for Ruché wine. Visit family wineries in Castagnole Monferrato using private transfers. A visitor recommends: "Having a designated driver was key. The winding rural roads get tricky after wine tastings." Local markets fill Piazza del Palio on Wednesdays and Saturdays.
- Days 11-12
Lake Como via Milan
- Days 13-14
Venice
Finish your trip in Venice. Take a water bus from the train station to reach the city. Book a hotel in San Marco or Dorsoduro for convenient walking. A useful tip: "The traghetto gondola crossings cost just €2 versus €80 for tourist rides. They're how locals traverse the Grand Canal." Visit St. Mark's Basilica when it opens at 9:45 AM to avoid cruise ship crowds.
What people love about 2-week Italy tours
- Italy's Best
Tour guide, Ursula, was exceptional. Great group. Lots of fun and we enjoyed a comprehensive snapshot of italy. Highly recommend this tour.
- Ultimate Italy
I travelled as a single & joined this tour May 2015. The tour leader was a local lady from Lake Como. She advised us of all the best local restaurants, attractions & importantly gelato vendors! It was a small, mixed age group of 11 which made for getting to know the other travellers well. Accommodation was always with local owners and was clean although basic but quite acceptable. Travelling through Italy was very well organized with using local transport & a lot of extras included. We also had lots of time to adventure on our own. I highly recommend this tour.
- Best of Italy (13 destinations)
A great trip thoroughly enjoyed by me and my wife. May thanks to Massimo Mabelia for his excellent leadership.
