What people love about River Cruise Tours from Nuremberg
- The Legendary Danube 2026
Everything was wonderful! We loved our room and the bed was soooo comfortable. All the staff was professional and friendly. The destinations were so interesting and the local guides made these places come to life. I loved the food. So varied, and the portions weren't overwhelming. Our chef was very good. I have only one little complaint. We read about the taxi drivers in Budapest being notorious for overcharging tourists. Our cruise director assured us that she would arrange the cabs for those needing them at the end of the cruise because Avalon has a relationship with a few of the cab companies. So I left it to the front desk to arrange, confident that we would be in good hands. Our cab driver had no meter in his car. He took us less than 3 kilometers to our hotel and charged us 10 euros. When we left Budapest and needed a cab to the train station, I made sure the hotel staff ordered a reliable cab and asked for the cost upfront--6 euros. And it was much farther. Aside from that, I loved all of it and want to do another Avalon cruise.
What our customers ask about River Cruises from Nuremberg
What is the typical length of river cruise tours starting from Nuremberg?
Most river cruises from Nuremberg run between 6 and 15 days, with 8 days being the most common length. The popular Blue Danube cruise takes you from Nuremberg to Budapest over 8 days, stopping at 9 places along the way. If you want a longer trip, you can choose tours like the 15-day Danube Grandeur cruise that goes all the way to Belgrade. One happy TourRadar traveler said "Everything was wonderful! The destinations were so interesting and the local guides made these places come to life."
What are the most popular stops after departing Nuremberg on these river cruises?
Your journey from Nuremberg usually takes you first to Regensburg with its beautiful medieval center (a UNESCO site), then to Passau where three rivers meet, and Melk with its impressive Benedictine Abbey. From there, you'll continue on to the major cities of Vienna, Bratislava, and Budapest. The ships Scenic Crystal and Amadeus Cara dock right in the heart of these cities, making it easy to walk to all the main sights.
What can I explore in Nuremberg before my river cruise departure?
You'll have plenty of time to explore Nuremberg before your ship leaves at 5:00 PM. Take a walk through the medieval Old Town (Altstadt), check out the Imperial Castle, and visit St. Lawrence Church and the busy market square. For history buffs, the Documentation Center Nazi Party Rally Grounds offers important WWII insights. Many travelers choose to stay at the Le Meridien Grand Hotel Nuremberg or the Park Plaza Nuremberg before their cruise.
What unique experiences are offered between Nuremberg and major destinations?
Your cruise will take you through some amazing places between the main stops. You'll sail through the beautiful Wachau Valley (a UNESCO site), try local wines in Austria's Dürnstein region, and explore medieval towns like Regensburg and Passau. You can visit the private Clam Castle, learn to make traditional Nuremberg gingerbread, and cross the Continental Divide through the Main-Danube Canal. As one TourRadar traveler said, "The local excursions and cultural experiences made each stop memorable and unique."
What are the common embarkation points in Nuremberg?
You'll start your cruise from one of several spots along the Main-Danube Canal in Nuremberg. The main passenger port (Personenschifffahrtshafen) is close to the city center, and some ships use the cruise terminal at Europakai. Your cruise line will send you clear directions about where to go and can arrange transportation from the airport or train station. According to a TourRadar traveler, "The embarkation process was smooth and well-organized with clear instructions provided."
What unique seasonal experiences are offered on Nuremberg river cruises?
Winter cruises from November to December let you experience Nuremberg's famous Christmas market, try hot mulled wine, and enjoy special holiday activities on board. Summer brings longer days perfect for sightseeing and outdoor activities. If you're interested in wine, book a September or October cruise during grape harvest season. One TourRadar traveler remembered, "The Christmas Market cruise was magical with all the festive decorations and special seasonal treats."
