What people love about Emilia Romagna Tours
- Italy Real Food Adventure (from Venice to Rome)
Italy Real Food Adventure tour is amazing! I'm happy to travel around the cities in Italy and eat all of the food there!
- Taste of Italy, Emilia-Romagna Culinary Cycling - Classic Self Guided 8day
This was our first cycle tour. The gentleman from bike plus (the local tour company) gave us our booklet which contained maps, detailed directions and details of hotel, tours and local information. He also went over how to use the gps. We chose to bring our own bikes and he offered gear that we could use on the tour. We found having the combination of the gps and written detailed instructions were perfect together for getting around. My husband and I really enjoyed the tours (cooking class, balsamic vinegar & cheese making fun and fascinating),. Due to the time of year we were the only two doing the bicycle tour which meant that our daily tours were just us. We chose to start the tour on Saturday so we didn't get to do the gelato tour. The hotels were great. Our first hotel was different then what is on the list due to the original was booked full. The tour company sent us the website of the optional hotel for us to approve of. The new B&B people were very helpful and the room was a nice size studio. The Cycle Europe had booked different types of lodgings, B&B, Hotels and a farm hotel, which we enjoyed the variety. We would of loved to had an extra night at the farm hotel. The locations of the other hotels were in the old town of the cities. I would recommend this tour to anyone who asked us for a recommendation.
- Bicycle Romagna, the Heartland of Italy's Homemade Pasta - Classic Self Guided
The entire trip was first class from the bikes and their fitting to the GPS and maps with explanations with things to do and see in the area. The route was gorgeous. Rode through orchards and vineyards on roads hardly used by cars....and if there was a vehicle we were given priority as they went far around us. There were some good hills which were rewarded with magnificent views and a hearty appetite. A highlight was the two nights spent at the agricultural farm stay. When riding into Bologna we were on bike paths through the busy areas. Never worried about traffic.
What our customers ask about Emilia Romagna Tours & Trips
When is the best time to visit Emilia Romagna for a country region tour?
Spring and fall offer the most pleasant conditions for exploring Emilia Romagna. From April to October the weather is mild and suits outdoor activities. The region is particularly welcoming in May and September for visiting sites like the UNESCO-listed Byzantine mosaics in Ravenna and exploring the countryside around Modena and Parma. Visitors staying at properties like Hotel Button in Parma often note the pleasant spring weather for countryside excursions. While July and August bring heat that's good for beach visits to Rimini the autumn months provide excellent opportunities for food tours during truffle and harvest seasons.
What are the must-try local foods on an Emilia Romagna country tour?
This region stands as Italy's food capital with signature products that define Italian cuisine. Visitors should seek out Parmigiano-Reggiano cheese in Parma traditional balsamic vinegar at family acetaias in Modena and prosciutto di Parma at establishments like the Acetaia Cavalli estate. Bologna offers exceptional handmade pasta especially tortellini while the countryside provides authentic Lambrusco wine. Recent guests at Hotel Canalgrande in Modena praised the "excellent balsamic and cheese tours that showed traditional production methods." The regional specialties extend to mortadella in Bologna and fresh squacquerone cheese in Faenza.
Which cities and towns should I include in my Emilia Romagna itinerary?
A well-planned route through Emilia Romagna covers key cultural centers. Start in Bologna with its medieval porticoes and food markets then visit Ravenna for world-renowned Byzantine mosaics and Modena for balsamic traditions and Ferrari history. Essential stops include Parma's prosciutto producers and the ceramic workshops of Faenza. Guests frequently praise properties like Hotel Il Guercino in Bologna as ideal bases for exploration. The medieval village of Brisighella and the castle town of Torrechiara offer quieter but equally rewarding experiences away from the main tourist circuit.
What kind of accommodation can I expect on an Emilia Romagna country tour?
The region offers diverse lodging options from city-center hotels to rural farmhouses. Properties range from the elegant Hotel Button in Parma to traditional agriturismos like La Razza near Reggio Emilia. Most tours combine 3-4 star hotels with family-run guesthouses selected for their local character and proximity to attractions. Recent travelers note the variety from "boutique properties in Bologna to lovely farm stays outside Modena." These accommodations typically provide comfortable bases for exploring the region's cultural and culinary offerings.
How accessible are the main attractions in Emilia Romagna for general tourists?
The region's tourist infrastructure makes exploration straightforward and convenient. Bologna's network of covered porticoes provides weather-protected walking routes throughout the city. Key destinations are well-connected with regular train service covering the 40km to Modena and 60km to Parma. Most accommodations including Hotel Button in Parma sit near main attractions and transport links. The efficient public transportation system and clearly marked tourist routes make independent exploration simple for visitors of all experience levels.
Are there any local festivals I should plan my Emilia Romagna tour around?
The region's festival calendar centers on food and cultural celebrations. September brings the Festival del Prosciutto to Parma while November features truffle festivals in the Apennine hills. Bologna hosts its Mortadella Festival in October Modena celebrates the Lambrusco Wine Festival in June and Ferrara presents its International Street Food Festival in spring. Visitors staying at places like Hotel NH Bologna De La Gare often time their visits to coincide with these events which showcase local traditions and specialties.
