  1. Day 1

    Stirling to Oban

You'll head north from Edinburgh through some classic Scottish landscape, starting with Stirling Castle before moving into the Trossachs. The route takes you past Loch Lomond and through the West Highlands, then through Inveraray with its distinctive white buildings from the 18th century. By evening you'll arrive in Oban for your two-night stay, giving you time to settle in and check out the harbor town.

From there, another ferry takes you to Iona and its historic abbey with carved stone crosses, or you can wander the rocky headlands and beaches if that appeals more. There's an option to take a boat out to Staffa for Fingal's Cave if conditions allow and you're interested. You'll ferry back to Oban in the late afternoon and have your second night there.

Fort William comes next, positioned below Ben Nevis (the UK's highest peak at 4,413 feet/1,345 meters). After Fort William you'll travel through the Great Glen, arriving in Plockton by evening. This fishing village becomes your base for the next couple of nights, so you'll get settled before dark.

You might climb the Quiraing for broad views across Trotternish Ridge, or head to Loch Corruisk for dramatic scenery, or drive through the Red Cuillin hills toward Elgol. Later in the afternoon you'll head back to Plockton, leaving you with a free evening to walk around the village and grab dinner somewhere locally.

After that the route goes through the Grampian Mountains and along Loch Laggan past Dalwhinnie, where Scotland's highest whisky distillery sits at 1,164 feet/355 meters. Michael is a great guide and driver. Very important on the narrow roads of the highlands. With frequent and engaging stops, we never sat on the bus for long periods at a time. The stories supported the great views. Hotels were good. The trip far exceeded my expectations!

The bus can be improved by putting cup holders on seats, and netting on top shelve. We had lots of things fall off shelve. I liked the tour but would love more history of the country, the guide was good but could be better. Over all good tour

We enjoyed he tour a lot more than we expects. Our tour guide (Chris Rockport) made the trip extra fun and he was very Knowable. Scotland is a beautiful country and everything was very clean. We also enjoyed all the hotels we stayed. Service was great.

Alan was a great tourist guide, he knew so much and made everything interesting and captivating. I think personally a few stops were not of most interest but the overall experience was great. We spend quite some time sitting down but mostly because there’s so much area to cover.

This tour was amazing! I would enthusiastically recommend it. The entire process from making reservations to getting on the bus went smoothly. Prior to the trip my questions were answered fully in a timely manner. From the moment I meant Gillian, our tour guide, her enthusiasm and professionalism was apparent. Gill made our trip really special. The weather and scenery were spectacular, but it was all of the special attention that Gill brought that made our trip truly memorable. Her knowledge of the geology, history, and culture of the area which she shared while driving down incredibly narrow winding roads brought a depth to our experience in the moment. Gill was intimately familiar with the itnerary and added special stops for viewing and photography that guaranteed we would take home a special feeling for Scotland in our hearts. She even made a special side trip to view the bridge over Glenfinnan Pass, at the request of a Harry Potter fan and seconded by all in the group, to see the setting for the Hogwart Express! In summary, in my decades of travel I have not had a more enthusiastic, knowledgable, considerate guide.

I’d never done a tour like this, so I have nothing to compare it with, but I do know I had a great time! Grant, our guide, was excellent. Not only is he knowledgeable, but also his love for the land is really contagious. The places we visited were all gorgeous, accommodations were comfortable enough and everything went on without a hic. Completely recommend this tour!

    Accommodation
    Price / Availability
    • Rabbie's ToursOperatorWritten November 2024

The price does indeed include accommodation. You can request three adults in one room however it all depends on the availability of our suppliers because a "family" room which allows three people in one room is quite rare. If we can then great but if not it'll be 1x single and 1x double or twin room.
