Itinerary
- Day 1
Edinburgh to Inverness
Start your day heading north through the Scottish Highlands, beginning at Doune Castle, which you'll recognize as Castle Leoch from the show. From there, the route takes you through Trossachs National Park where you can see the dramatic landscapes that make this region so distinctive. Later, you'll reach Glencoe for some walking and photography time before grabbing lunch in Fort William at the base of Ben Nevis. After lunch, drive toward Glenfinnan Monument and the famous Hogwarts Express railway line, then continue past Loch Ness as you head to Inverness for the evening. The drive covers quite a bit of ground, so plan for several hours of travel between stops.

Inverness
This day focuses on the Highlands northeast of Inverness, starting with Clan Fraser lands and a visit to Lord Lovat's tomb to pay respects. Next, you'll head to Glen Affric with its lochs, mountains, and pine forests, which gives you a real sense of the wild landscape of the region. Along the way, check out the Corrimony Chambered Cairn, a 4,000-year-old site that's quite remarkable when you see it in person. By midday, stop in Drumnadrochit on Loch Ness for lunch and an optional look at Urquhart Castle ruins across the water. After lunch, if you're interested in a shorter walk, there's an optional stop at Rogie Falls where a suspension bridge offers good views. Later, you'll return to Inverness for the evening.

Inverness to Perth
Begin at Culloden Battlefield, an important historical site connected to both Scottish history and the show's storyline. Spend time at the visitor centre learning about the final Jacobite Rising and the people affected by what happened there. Afterward, travel a short distance to the Clava Cairns complex, a mysterious site that reportedly inspired Craigh na Dun. The drive south takes you through Cairngorms National Park to Aviemore, where you'll have time for lunch and photographs. During the afternoon, visit Newtonmore Highland Folk Museum to see recreated 18th-century crofts and get a sense of how people lived in that era. Before heading to Perth for the evening, stop at Killicrankie river gorge and its historic battle site. It's a full day with several different stops, so you'll cover significant ground.

Perth to Edinburgh
This day stays closer to the central belt of Scotland, starting in the charming village of Falkland with its cobblestone streets and palace, which appears as 1940s Inverness in the show. Head to Culross village next to see its historic palace and cobbled streets that serve as Cranesmuir on screen. Stop in Linlithgow for lunch and consider a quick visit to the palace there if you'd like (it's the Wentworth Prison location in the series). From there, check out Blackness Castle with its ramparts overlooking the Firth of Forth, which represents Fort William in Outlander. Later, drive to Midhope Castle and sit on those iconic steps you've seen. Your final stop before returning to Edinburgh is Hopetoun House and its gardens, which served as the Duke of Sandringham's residence. It's mostly driving between locations with walking stops at each site, and you'll be back in Edinburgh by evening.
