When I signed up for his tour through Get Your Guide, it explained a tour that would fill us with the rich 5000 year history of the Highlands The first thing our guide Craig did was apologize for not knowing anything about the places we were going or about the Highlands. The day before was the first time he'd driven the route as a recon mission, and we were his first five day tour. He'd never even done an overnight before. I was in the front seat, and before we left, the bus started making a weird noise. When Craig asked his supervisor about it, he said he'd get him a new bus at our next stop. That never happened. Instead, we had to endure five days of a loose fan belt, which sounded like an electric drill. When that wasn't happening, there was a swoshing sound like an ocean machine was on. This made it difficult to understand the already heavy Scotland accent of our driver. Two of the place we were supposed to visit did not allow large buses. Craig sweet talked one of them into letting us stop because he was new. Our accommodations were spread out all over the areas we stopped with some not within walking distance to restaraunts for dinner. I called Get Your Guide, whom I booked the tour through and explained all of this, requesting a refund. Hyland Experience lied, saying all their drivers are well seasoned and knowledgable. Craig isn't even on thier website, he's so new. I love Get Your Guide as they respectfully refunded a part of the tour when Hyland Experience refused to acknowledge the problem and discontent customer.

Our courier, Ben, made the trip a wonderful experience, filling the five days with absorbing tales and numerous sights from Scottish history. Our travelling companions all bonded together in common enjoyment. It was a memorable journey, with fine accommodation, made even better with remarkably good weather!

The driver was witty and knowledgeable although I occasionally found it hard to understand his Scottish accent. The seats were comfortable but the air con did not work for most of the tour and we had to open and close the skylight in order to keep the air circulating. Some of the B&Bs were excellent with warm hosts. All the breakfasts were wonderful and generously portioned. However, some of the rooms were in the shape of an attic and made the room feel small and we had to be careful not to hit our heads on the structure. Also, we found the stairs difficult to use as we are 70-year-olds and it was heavy to lug our bags up and down the stairs. There should be a choice as to whether the senior guests want ground floor rooms. The choice of places on the tour were excellent and breathtakingly beautiful and we had the choice to climb to the higher vantage points or wait at some spot. The time spent at each place was perfect.

I chose this tour mainly because it included the Isle of Skye and I had heard from so many that this was the most beautiful place they'd ever been to. They weren't wrong! Our driver guide was Rob Hall. Rob is an educated and knowledgeable person who is well-versed in Scotland's history. He provided so much more to our experience by telling us many stories as we drove along. He looked after us in a kind, respectful and fun manner. He was flexible with the itinerary which proved to be a bonus most of the time. We got to see some things not mentioned in the description of the tour, and other places we were unable to see due to tides, midges and other unforeseeable circumstances. The accommodations were very comfortable, clean and included delicious breakfasts. We had ocean-view rooms in most of them. The bus was the perfect size for our group of 16 and Rob did an amazing job maneuvering it through the many one-lane roads. My husband and I came away with a sense of wonder and gratitude for all that we saw and did in 5 days. We decided that we love Scotland just a tiny bit more than Ireland!

Hi We did the scottish trail with highland experience tours and it was great. Our driver guide Rob was excellent . He was most helpful and kept up a continuous commentary about the history of the places which we visited and their significance . Rob provided guidance regarding the best places to eat and made reccomendations about purchases. Rob provided regular stops for toilet breaks taking into consideration passenger comfort. this was most helful . ROB on the whole was an excellant guide . About the B& B accomodation we were put up at i must add that they were excellant . Hawthorn Bank , Cliffe House and moyness were all excellant . The hosts were very helpful and Annat Cliffehouse is worth a special mention . she went the extra mile in packing us sandwiches for us to eat on the way . All 3 accomodation were great in comfort and cleanliness. all 3 provided a great breakfast too . Overall we were extreamly happy that we took this tour. Thank you Higland Experience tours Cheers Dilrukshi Karunaratne

The overall experience of the the tour was excellent. We were very fortunate to have good weather and great B&B accommodations. All hosts were very friendly. But the star of our experience was the tour guide Rob Hall. Mr. Hall was by far the best tour guide I ever had. He was personable, knowledgeable and took the whole experience to a new level. He knew when to go to the sites to avoid the crowds and brought us to sites not on the itinerary that should have been included. There were no misses to his recommendations. He was able to adjust on the fly due to weather, traffic, and the requests of the guests on the bus. I cannot say enough about how much Mr. Hall made this tour an unforgettable and amazing experience.

Iain was a great guide! Kept us extremely busy and entertained the entire time. Alot if driving but it was a welcome break in between all of the different areas we were able to visit. During the bus time, he kept us entertained with great stories of the areas we visited and great music. Great itinerary and guide was very knowledgeable. Would recommend!

What a phenomenal experience… the land is breathtaking, the people are friendly (and hilarious), the food is delicious - and I saw way more than I would’ve on my own. Is there an opportunity to do the Jacobite train ride

This tour does not include a ride on the Jacobite Steam Train. However, it does include a visit to the famous Glenfinnan Viaduct and you will get to ride some of the route that the train takes. We do offer a 4-Day Skye & The Jacobite Train Tour that would include a 1-way ride on the famous Hogwarts Express!

    • Highland Experience ToursOperatorWritten July 2025

Just to confirm, our 5-day Scottish Choice tour spends 1 night in Inverness however it does not include a ride on the Jacobite Steam Train. Our 4-day Skye and the Jacobite Train tour does include a 1-way journey on the Jacobite Steam Train however it does not visit Inverness. Although the 4-day Skye and the Jacobite Train tour does not visit Inverness, it does spend 1 night in the beautiful town of Fort Augustus which sits on the south end of Loch Ness.
