Itinerary

  1. Day 1

    Buenos Aires

You'll arrive in Buenos Aires whenever works for your flight and head to your hotel to get settled. There's nothing scheduled until the evening welcome meeting, so the afternoon is yours to explore. Wander through neighborhoods like La Boca with its colorful buildings, check out the upscale shops and cafes in Recoleta, or walk the historic streets of San Telmo. If you're interested, there are tango shows happening around the city that you can catch on your own.

    Included Activities

    • Welcome Moment - Meet Your CEO and Group

    Optional Activities

    • Buenos Aires Bike Tour
    • La Boca Neighbourhood Visit
    • Buenos Aires Guided City Tour
    • Teatro Colón Tour
    • Tango show
    Landmarks/POIs
    La Boca
    Recoleta
    San Telmo
    Teatro Colón
  2. Day 2

    Buenos Aires to El Chaltén

This morning you'll catch an early flight to El Calafate, then a private vehicle takes you north toward El Chaltén in Los Glaciares National Park. During the drive, you'll see towering Andean peaks rising up around you. Once you reach El Chaltén, you'll have free time to walk around town or do a short hike if you want to get your legs warmed up before the bigger treks ahead.

    Meals
    Breakfast

    Optional Activities

    • Short hike to nearby lookout
    Landmarks/POIs
    Los Glaciares National Park
    Cerro Fitz Roy
    Cerro Torre
  3. Day 3

    El Chaltén

Today you'll do a full-day guided hike to Loma del Pliegue Tumbado viewpoint, where you get 360-degree views of the entire El Chaltén region. This trail works differently than the others in that it climbs to give you panoramic views from the top rather than descending into a valley. You'll be on one of the less-crowded trails in the park, so it feels quieter than some of the more popular routes.

    Meals
    Breakfast

    Included Activities

    • Loma del Pliegue Tumbado Guided Hike
    Landmarks/POIs
    Loma del Pliegue Tumbado
  4. Day 4

    El Chaltén

You'll head out for a full-day guided hike to Laguna de los Tres, which offers views of Fitz Roy peaks if the weather cooperates. The trail takes you through different types of terrain, starting through tree-covered sections and opening up to exposed alpine landscape as you climb. The 400m incline to reach the teal-colored lake is tough going, but this is one of the most popular hikes in the region for good reason.

    Meals
    Breakfast

    Included Activities

    • Los Glaciares National Park Guided Hike
    Landmarks/POIs
    Laguna de los Tres
    Cerro Fitz Roy
  5. Day 5

    El Chaltén to El Calafate

You'll pick one of El Chaltén's trekking routes to finish your time here. You could hike to Laguna Torre for views of Cerro Torre, visit Chorrillo del Salto Waterfall, or head up to Condor Mirador for town views. After your hike, you'll transfer back to El Calafate and grab a substantial dinner to recover from the day's effort.

    Meals
    Breakfast

    Optional Activities

    • Laguna Torre trail hike
    • Chorrillo del Salto Waterfall hike
    • Condor and Eagle Lookout hike

    Cerro Torre
    Chorrillo del Salto Waterfall
    Condor Mirador
  6. Day 6

    El Calafate

You'll travel to Perito Moreno Glacier for an included guided tour. The walkways bring you right up to the glacier, and you'll get striking views looking out over the ice. There's an option to take a boat ride on the lake to see the glacier from the water, which gives you a sense of just how massive it actually is.

    Meals
    Breakfast

    Included Activities

    • Perito Moreno Glacier Tour

    Optional Activities

    • Perito Moreno Glacier Boat ride
    Landmarks/POIs

  7. Day 7

    El Calafate

This is a free day in El Calafate, so you've got options depending on your energy level. You could take a relaxed hike to Laguna Nimez, spend time in town browsing the souvenir shops and restaurants, do a full-day ranch experience, or try an adventure activity out in the Patagonian landscape. It's a good chance to rest up before starting the 4-day trek.

    Meals
    Breakfast

    Optional Activities

    • Full-day ranch experience
    • Adventure activities in Patagonian landscape

Once there, walk around town and handle any last-minute shopping or rent any equipment you might need for the W Trek. Later you'll sit down with your trip leader and the local mountain guides for a detailed briefing about what the next four days will involve.

This is day one of your four-day trekking adventure within Torres del Paine National Park. You'll carry just a daypack with your personal items, and the porters will manage the camping equipment and food for the group.

  • Hike Patagonia In Depth reviewer 1

My wife booked a tour of Patagonia with her sister. GAdventures immediately took a deposit of $350. My wife and her sister then attempted to talk with someone at GAdventures to set themselves as partners for the double occupancy. They tried calls, chat, Americans emails but could not access customer service. No return of email requests. After a day, they decided to cancel they trip because of poor service. They were afraid of how the operator would perform. They could not get through to cancel quickly because GAdventures has no effective customer service. They finally got GAdventures to cancel their trip but their deposit refund request was turned down. Please think twice about booking through GAdventures. We consider them disreputable.

Was quite disappointing to have to race through it rather than stop to enjoy the views. We weren’t allowed to take photos or stop to tie a shoelace until a scheduled stop. For someone trying to record the journey, it was a letdown. Ours was the fastest group on every walk, but there were some of us who had travelled vast distances there to immerse and enjoy the scenery, rather than clear each trail in record time. Very little time to ourselves too, everyone had to adhere to military-precision plans at all times because it was such a large group of 16. I won’t be doing G-Adventures again, big groups of all mismatched ages just aren’t enjoyable when only the vocal few are calling all the shots. This trip is more of a series of 20-30km day hikes and lots of travel time in between. The white water rafting and Big Ice glacier trek (optional extras) were stunning highlights and thoroughly enjoyable. We did the W trek in disconnected stages, rather than start to finish. I’m sure there was a good reason, but it added even more time spent in buses/ferries rather than on peaceful foot. I will be returning to doing through-hikes and adventures on my own.
