- Day 1
Nairobi
You'll arrive in Nairobi and meet your expedition truck along with all the camping gear you'll need for the coming weeks. Head to the Langata Giraffe Centre where you can get up close with Africa's tallest mammals. The afternoon and evening are yours to do as you like, with options to check out Nairobi National Park, the David Sheldrick Elephant Orphanage if you want to see rescued elephants, or the Karen Blixen Museum for some literary history.

Nairobi to Serengeti Region
Early morning departure from Nairobi takes you south through hot savannah grasslands dotted with acacia trees into Tanzania. You'll reach Meserani Snake Park near Arusha for the night. Over the next few days, you can add on a safari into Serengeti National Park and Ngorongoro Crater to watch wildlife, or stick around the Snake Park, visit a local Masai village, or arrange day trips into the parks on your own terms.

Arusha to Dar Es Salaam
Leaving Arusha, you'll pass through small towns and villages with possible glimpses of Kilimanjaro's peak depending on the weather. The truck stops for a couple of nights in Marangu village where you can climb to Kilimanjaro base camp, walk through coffee plantations, or check out rivers, waterfalls, and caves in the area. After that, you head toward the coast and beach time at Bagamoyo before settling into Dar Es Salaam where the truck stays put for four nights.

Zanzibar
You'll leave the truck behind and take the ferry from Dar Es Salaam across to Zanzibar for four nights. Stone Town's narrow streets are full of activity, with spice markets, old slave forts, and dungeons to walk through. The other three nights split between relaxing on Zanzibar's white sand beaches and arranging activities like scuba diving, snorkelling, or dolphin boat trips if that interests you.

Zanzibar to Malawi
After the ferry ride back from Zanzibar, you'll travel through Tanzania's mountainous interior and pass through Mikumi National Park where elephants, giraffes, zebras, and antelope are commonly spotted. From there it's into lush plantations and then into Malawi where you'll spend several days camped along Lake Malawi's shore. You can lounge on sandy beaches, try water sports like scuba diving or windsurfing, or wander into nearby villages to see local artisans at work.

Malawi to Zimbabwe
Moving on from Lake Malawi takes you to the capital Lilongwe where you can browse local markets. Then you'll cross into Mozambique through the Tete Corridor and drive through to Zimbabwe's border. Harare, the capital, is next where you can walk around the cosmopolitan city centre, check out craft markets and the bustling Mbare market, stroll through botanical gardens, and explore the nightlife scene.

Harare to Great Zimbabwe Ruins
Heading out from Harare, you'll travel through rural farmland and small villages before climbing into Zimbabwe's Eastern Highlands toward Chimanimani. Hiking through mountain wilderness is possible, or you can visit nearby Bridal Veil Falls, or just relax in this quiet village and explore what's around. Later, you continue to Great Zimbabwe Ruins, a UNESCO World Heritage site and what remains of the largest medieval city in Sub-Saharan Africa.

Great Zimbabwe to Bulawayo
You'll drive across Mashonaland to Gweru and spend a couple of nights at a privately run horse and game ranch with different options for viewing wildlife on horseback. After that, the truck heads into Matabeleland toward Bulawayo. From there you can arrange a day safari into Matobo National Park to look for Black Rhinos and other wildlife, visit Cecil Rhodes' grave, or see ancient rock paintings depending on your interests.

Bulawayo to Victoria Falls
You'll travel from Bulawayo to Victoria Falls either by overnight train if one's running or by truck, pulling in late afternoon. Once you arrive at Victoria Falls, you're looking at one of Africa's most powerful natural wonders, where roughly 5 million cubic metres of water drop into the Zambezi Gorge every minute. After you get settled, the rest of your day is open. Some people head straight to the falls to see the spray and mist, while others take it easy at their accommodation after the journey. Whatever you choose, you'll have time to adjust and get your bearings before dinner.
