Itinerary

  1. Day 1

Marrakech to Tabant to Azib n'Ikkis

Your guide picks you up early from Marrakech and drives you to Tabant, where you'll meet your mules and start your trek. The first day's walk takes about 3 to 4 hours and stays relatively easy as you head toward the campsite near Azib n'Ikkis. You'll pass through the Berber villages of Ait Said and Arouss along the way, getting a feel for local life in the mountains.

    Meals
    Lunch, Dinner

    Included Activities

    • Walk to Azib n'Ikkis campsite (approximately 3 to 4 hours)
    • Pass through Berber villages of Ait Said and Arouss
    Landmarks
    Tabant
    Ait Said
    Arouss
  2. Day 2

    Tabant to Tarkeddid Refuge

This day pushes you harder despite being shorter. You're looking at 4 to 5 hours of walking with steep climbs over the Oumskig Pass and then the very steep Aghouwri Pass. The effort pays off with great views across the surrounding landscape. After descending via a tight zigzag path, you'll reach the Tarkeddid refuge to rest for the night.

    Meals
    Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner

    Included Activities

    • Ascent of Oumskig Pass (2909m)
    • Ascent of Aghouwri Pass (3400m)
    • Descent to Tarkeddid refuge (approximately 3 hours descent)
    Landmarks
    Oumskig Pass
    Aghouwri Pass
  3. Day 3

    Summit and Return

Start early because you've got a 4 to 5 hour climb ahead to reach the summit. The route isn't technically difficult but it's steep, and some sections narrow into a ridge that requires careful footing. Once you're up there, the views make all that effort worth it. Coming back down takes about 3 hours as you retrace your steps.

    Meals
    Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner

    Included Activities

    • Climb to summit (approximately 4 to 5 hours)
    • Descent from summit (approximately 3 hours)
  4. Day 4

Tarkeddid Refuge to Ain Aflafal Refuge

Today changes things up with a varied walk that circles around the Arouss Gorge, tracking streams and rivers as you go. You'll climb to the Oumsoud Pass, then stop for a picnic lunch in a meadow near a spring in the Oulilimt valley. After eating, you'll follow the river for roughly 3 more hours until you reach the Ain Aflafal refuge.

    Meals
Breakfast, Lunch (Picnic lunch in a delightful meadow with a spring in the Oulilimt valley), Dinner

    Included Activities

    • Walk around Arouss Gorge edge
    • Ascent of Oumsoud Pass (2969m)
    • Picnic lunch in Oulilimt valley meadow
    • Walk to Ain Aflafal refuge (approximately 3 hours after lunch)
    Landmarks
    Arouss Gorge
    Oumsoud Pass
    Oulilimt Valley
  5. Day 5

Ain Aflafal Refuge to Ait Imi

You're heading back toward Tabant today over the Ait Imi Pass, which means 5 to 6 hours of walking. The path starts off easy through summer grazing land but gets steeper as you near the pass. From the top, you can see into the M'Goun valley and sometimes spot Tabant village below. The descent is sharp over loose scree for about 90 minutes, then you'll drop into Ait Imi village, which sits just 30 minutes from Tabant.

    Meals
    Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner

    Included Activities

    • Walk through summer pastures
    • Ascent of Ait Imi Pass (2905m)
    • Steep descent over loose scree (approximately 90 minutes)
    • Arrival at Ait Imi village
    Landmarks
    Ait Imi Pass
    M'Goun Valley
    Ait Imi
  6. Day 6

    Ait Imi to Marrakech

Your driver meets you for the transfer back to Marrakech, bringing your mountain trek to a close.

We were glad to have a wonderful 6-day M’ Goun trek in Morocco. The M’ Goun is at the central part of the Atlas Mountains and houses the second highest peak of the mountain. View Morocco’s organization was one of a kind, picking us from our hotel in Marrakech city in time. While at this popular destination, we participated in hiking and other amazing experiences. Not forgetting the stunning views from the second highest peak of the Atlas Mountains. The 6-day trek brought us further away from Marrakech as we enjoyed wonderful scenery and stunning landscapes. This was a wonderful treat from View Morocco!

An absolutely great tour. It was perfectly organized. The landscape was beautiful. Even if it was very hot in August when we did the tour, the daily walking time was good. No day was too hard. The summit of M'Goun ist wonderful as well as the other day tours and campsites. Trek in Morocco and our guide left no question from us unanswered, the answering time via tourradar was very quick. Also the flexibility to shift the start of the tour (pick up in Marrakech) by 4 hours was absolutely great. Thank you to the Team of Trek in Morocco, to Hassan, our very professional and experienced guide and to the rest of the team who went with us! We had a great time with you guys and will definitely book again a tour with you!

Everything about the our experience on the 6 day trek in the m'goun area of the high atlas was easy. We booked this trek at relatively late notice. Housine was super quick to get back to us and stayed in contact until the day of departure. Our guide Abdul was fantastic. He knew the area, spoke great English, always located us in the best campsites, and cooked delicious food. highly recommend this trek to anyone coming to Morocco, and also definitely recommend going with housine, Abdul and the team from trek in Morocco.
