Itinerary

  1. Day 1

    Maun

You'll meet your group at the lodge in Maun around 5pm. The town started back in 1915 as the capital for the Batswana people, and it's got that frontier feel with cattle ranching and safari operations everywhere. This is where your adventure kicks off, so there's time to settle in, grab dinner, and get to know the other travelers before heading out into the delta.

    Start point
Maun, North-West, Botswana (Island Safari Lodge, Maun, 17:00)
    Accommodation
    (Island Safari Lodge)
    Landmarks
    Maun
  2. Days 2 - 3

    Okavango Delta

Head to the Okavango Delta launch station in the morning and board a mokoro, which is a traditional dug-out canoe that'll be your transport to camp. Your poler steers you through reed-lined channels while pointing out red lechwe, buffalo, and elephant moving through the water. The birdlife here is constant - kingfishers and other species show up throughout the day. By afternoon you'll reach your tented camp right in the heart of this inland delta, one of the largest and most active on the continent.

  3. Days 4 - 7

    Moremi Game Reserve

For the next four days you're doing daily game drives in open 4WD vehicles through Moremi Game Reserve and the surrounding private concession areas. Chief's Island, the biggest landmass in Moremi, used to be the Batswana's prime hunting territory. You'll track elephant, hippo, buffalo, and lion across these reserves. On day seven around midday you head back to Maun, then grab dinner at a restaurant that evening (you cover the cost).

  4. Day 8

    Nata

There's an optional scenic flight over the Okavango if you want it (extra fee). After that you travel to Nata and then on to the Makgadikgadi saltpans, which stretch out like an endless white plain. When the rains come heavy, wildebeest and zebra migrate across the grasslands and flamingo congregate in the algae-rich water. Fair warning - recent rainfall means there's water in parts of the pans you'll be visiting, so the landscape looks different than it does in drier years.

  5. Days 9 - 10

    Chobe National Park

This morning starts early with a 4WD game drive in Chobe National Park, where the Chobe River forms the northern boundary. The river draws some of Africa's largest elephant herds, so you'll have good chances spotting them. In the afternoon you take a sundowner cruise on the river where you'll watch the elephant come down to drink as the light starts fading.

  6. Days 11 - 12

    Victoria Falls

You're heading to Victoria Falls - 'Mosi oa Tunya' or 'the smoke that thunders' in the local language. The falls generate so much spray that a rainforest surrounds it, full of colorful birds and lush vegetation. If you're up for it, there are optional activities like white water rafting on the Zambezi River, bungee jumping, or a scenic flight over the falls (all cost extra and are your choice).

With regards to your query all our rooms/tents are booked on the basis of twin occupancy. So for the 3 of you, you would need to book 1 x twin and then the other person can choose whether or not they book with single supplement or not.

  • B

    Barry

    Asked on November 6th, 2024

Is it possible to put together an itinerary for Victoria Falls and Botswana? It would be for 6 people - 3 double rooms. All accommodations 3 or 4 star. Tented safari camps would be great. Not luxury - but nice. Semi-Guided. From Maun to the end would be guided with a vehicle. Can one drive from Okavango to Chobe? Is it too far? I was hoping to get them to stay at only one place around Okavango (use that as a base) and one at Chobe (same - base). In the end does it make sense to drive to Kasane to fly out to JNB?

The closest tour that we run which I think would suit your needs would be the BOTSWANA WILDSIDE 14 DAY CAMPING TOUR. Please have a look at the detailed itinerary that I have attached for you and let me know your thoughts.
