Asked on February 18th, 2025Would this offering be suitable for a senior couple in their 80s? Both are in good health and mobile as well as enthusiastic.
- Oasis OverlandOperator•Written February 2025
This trip is an amazing adventure and an experience you'll remember forever, but it does have its challenges. It is open to travellers of all ages, however, when we receive a booking request from a senior traveller, we want to make sure that you know all this now, rather than finding out while already on the trip that it's perhaps not for you. This is a camping-based, fully participatory trip. You will need to put up your tent (which is quite hefty, being a sturdy, 3 person tent) with your tent buddy in the evening, take it down again in the morning and lift it into the tent locker when breaking camp. While we do have some nights in basic hotels, guesthouses and hostels, and there are options to upgrade your accommodation to a bed from time to time, for the vast majority of the trip you will be camping and sleeping on the ground with just your camping mattress. (70% camping and 30% basic hostels/hotels). The cooking and cleaning is done by all members of the group on a rotation system (with the whole group normally split into smaller groups of 3 or 4). Cooking for 20 people can be challenging but your Tour Leader will be on hand to give guidance and advice! It will involve lifting heavy pans, climbing on and off the truck to fetch food supplies from the underfloor storage, reaching into equipment lockers on the side of the truck and washing up. Other things to get involved with are collecting firewood, filling up jerry cans at water supplies and generally keeping the truck clean and tidy. Everyone is expected to do their part in all this and to work as a team - the more everyone pitches in, the better everyone gets along, and the more successfully the trip runs.

Asked on February 11th, 2024Is there a single supplement with this tour?
- Oasis OverlandOperator•Written February 2024
We do not offer a single supplement on our overland trips, though we do provide customers the option of bringing their own tent. You will need to let us know in advance if you wish to bring your own tent.

Asked on August 1st, 2023I'm 74 but very fit, take no medications whatsoever, and have been to almost 100 countries, usually traveling solo and staying in hostels. So I'm hoping you'll make an exception to your age limit on this trip. I did a similar overland one for a month in Africa a few years ago and LOVED it!

Asked on July 4th, 2023Daywise itinerary?
- Oasis OverlandOperator•Written July 2023
Trip highlights include stunning mountain scenery in Kyrgyzstan, visiting oldest bazaar in Central Asia, traveling through Fergana Valley, driving over Fann Mountains, exploring ancient medressas, mausoleums and mosques in Khiva, Bukhara and Samarkand, seeing ships in Aral Sea desert, camping in Kara-Kum Desert, and experiencing Darwaza Gas Crater.

Asked on June 6th, 2023What is the standard of the accommodation, is any of it with en suite bathrooms. Also what would a single supplement be.
- Oasis OverlandOperator•Written June 2023
The accommodation is approximately 40% camping and 60% simple hostels and hotels. At the camp sites you would not necessarily have en-suite facilities and at some of the hostels/hotels you can upgrade to an en-suite room locally. The guide will be able to assist you with this while on the tour. Since you are a single traveller, we would be pairing you up with another female traveller while on the tour. Upgrades are available whilst on tour.
