Bangkok
You'll arrive in Bangkok and head to your hotel to settle in. Later this evening, you'll meet your Travel Director and other travelers for drinks and local appetizers to kick things off.

Bangkok
Start with optional T'ai Chi practice at Lumpini Park with locals, or take a leisurely morning instead. Then you'll tour Bangkok's Grand Palace and Wat Phra Kaew, Thailand's most sacred Buddhist temple. From there, check out the largest reclining Buddha at Wat Pho and get a traditional Thai massage. You'll return to your hotel by express river boat along the Chao Praya, passing Wat Arun on the way.

A local specialist leads you through a traditional Thai cooking class in a colonial-style house, focusing on the five flavors of Thai cuisine. You'll visit a local market to pick up fresh ingredients, then cook and taste what you've made. The afternoon is yours to explore Bangkok at your own pace or visit Jim Thompson's House to see Asian art.

Bangkok - Damnoen Saduak - Kanchanaburi
Head out to Damnoen Saduak floating market and paddle through congested canals with friendly merchants selling fresh produce. You'll stop at a coconut palm sugar plantation to see how farmers extract sap for palm sugar. After lunch, you'll see the Bridge over the River Kwai and cross it yourself, then explore the Thailand-Burma Railway Museum to learn about the WWII railway. Before finishing, you'll pay respects at the War Cemetery.

Kanchanaburi
Visit Hellfire Pass, part of the Death Railway, to learn about what prisoners of war went through during WWII. After lunch, you'll take a train ride across wooden viaducts along the winding Kwai River, then walk across one of those viaducts yourself. This evening, you'll have dinner at a local restaurant.

Kanchanaburi - Ayutthaya - Bangkok - Sukhothai
Travel to Ayutthaya, a UNESCO site and once the second-most important ancient capital of Siam and the world's largest city. You'll explore the trading heritage of this city, which was largely destroyed by a Burmese invasion in the 18th century. After lunch at a local restaurant, you'll head back to Bangkok for your flight to Sukhothai, Thailand's first capital.

Sukhothai
Learn about the powerful kingdom that shaped modern Thailand during its golden age in the 13th and 14th centuries. Start at UNESCO-listed Sukhothai Historical Park, which holds thousands of years of history and a 15-meter seated Buddha. You can explore by bicycle or internal tram. Later, visit a local family's home and learn to make protective amulets.

Sukhothai - Chiang Mai
Begin with a community experience at Natonchan village supporting their eco-tourism project. You'll interact with locals and learn about traditional gymnastic doll making and mud-soaked cotton textiles. Then you'll arrive in Chiang Mai and take an evening walk through the colorful Sunday market with your Travel Director. Your hotel is in Chiang Mai's old town.

Chiang Mai

Then head to a nearby village for a local family experience in a typical stilt house where you'll have northern Thai-style lunch. Afterward, check out the delicate hand-painted fans and colorful paper umbrellas that Chiang Mai's Sankamphaeng district is known for.

Your morning is free to explore on your own, or join an optional visit to meet the Kayan tribe women who wear traditional brass neck rings and learn about their centuries-old customs. Later, head to Wat Doi Suthep, one of Thailand's most sacred temples. Watch the sunset, listen to monks chanting, and then join your Travel Director and fellow travelers for a farewell dinner before flying to Phuket.
