Itinerary
- Day 1
Provence to Lyon
You'll start in Arles where Roman heritage fills the streets and squares. Walk around the old town and take in the ancient architecture, then head to Les Baux to experience the underground Carrières de Lumières art show carved into the limestone quarries. Later you'll get time to stroll through Avignon and see the Palais des Papes, the massive palace that served as the papal residence. From there it's on to Lyon where you'll walk through the old town before taking a cable car up to the basilica for views across the city.

Lyon to Dijon
The day starts in Tournus where you'll check out the stone gate and abbey, both showing off Burgundy's architectural history. Head to Beaune next, the wine capital, and you'll have time to walk around on your own before visiting Savigny Castle to see its collection of vintage vehicles. By evening you'll reach Dijon where you can explore the medieval and Renaissance architecture, including the Palace of the Dukes which sits at the heart of the old town.

Leaving Burgundy behind, you'll pass through Besançon with its Roman heritage and 17th-century citadel before entering Alsace. Arriving in Colmar, the half-timbered houses line the streets and canals create a charming atmosphere. After lunch and some exploration time, head to the medieval village of Riquewihr with its colorful houses and narrow streets, then visit a winery for tasting. You'll finish the day arriving in Strasbourg for the evening.

Your day in Strasbourg starts with the medieval streets and Gothic cathedral, then you'll take a boat trip through the canals of Petite France. Crossing into Germany, you'll drive through Black Forest scenery and have time for lunch before exploring Freiburg's medieval center. Stop in Triberg to see the famous cuckoo clocks and waterfalls, then continue through the picturesque village of Gengenbach for photos before reaching elegant Baden-Baden for the night.

Moving on to Heidelberg, take a cable car up to the castle for impressive views of the city below, then explore the old town with its markets and shops. Later you'll reach Frankfurt with its modern skyline, and your day finishes in Römerberg Square with traditional beer and sausage tasting.

Frankfurt to Paris via Luxembourg and Reims
Today you'll cross into Luxembourg, a small country with a cosmopolitan old town that's a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Walk through the city's fortifications and visit the Grand Ducal Palace and Notre-Dame Cathedral before breaking for lunch. From there it's on to the Champagne region and Reims where the Gothic cathedral stands as the historic site of French royal coronations. You'll arrive in Paris by evening.
