- Day 1
Kigali to Akagera National Park
Start early with breakfast, then drive from Kigali to Akagera National Park. After settling into your lodge, you'll head out on a boat safari across Lake Ihema in the afternoon. The water tour gives you chances to see hippos lounging near the shore, crocodiles, and a range of colorful birds. The lake's a good spot to catch wildlife in their natural habitat without the dust of a land drive.

- Day 2
Akagera National Park to Volcanoes National Park
Grab breakfast before a morning game drive through Akagera's northern plains. You'll have time to look for elephants, giraffes, lions, buffaloes, and zebras across the grasslands. After the drive, you'll head through scenic countryside with terraced hills as the landscape shifts toward Volcanoes National Park. You'll reach Musanze by evening, giving you time to rest before the next day's activities.

- Day 3
Volcanoes National Park
After breakfast you'll choose your adventure. You can go for gorilla trekking through the rainforest if you've got the permit already booked, which means spending about an hour watching a gorilla family up close. Or you can hike up Bisoke Volcano and reach the crater at the summit for views across the park. Both options let you experience what makes Volcanoes National Park so special, just in different ways.

- Gorilla trekking in rainforest with experienced rangers (permit required, USD 1,500 per person, must be booked in advance)

- Day 4
Volcanoes National Park to Kigali
Eat breakfast, then trek through bamboo forest to watch golden monkeys. They're active and fun to observe as they move through the trees and interact with each other. Later, stop at the Gorilla Museum to learn about Rwanda's conservation work and the country's wildlife protection efforts. In the afternoon, drive back to Kigali. If time works out, you can visit the Kigali Genocide Memorial before your tour ends.
