Itinerary
- Day 1
Antigua
You'll arrive in Antigua, a highland city with colonial architecture surrounded by volcanoes. If your flight gets in early, there's time to wander the cobblestone streets and check out the colorful buildings on your own. The welcome meeting happens at 6 pm at your hotel, where you'll meet your group leader and other travelers. After that, ask your leader where locals eat and have dinner with your new travel companions.

Landmarks Antigua - Day 2
Antigua
Morning brings a half-day bike tour from Antigua through nearby villages to Finca Azotea coffee plantation. You'll learn how shade-grown coffee gets produced and taste different varieties from the farm. Cycling back through the coffee plants takes you back to the city by early afternoon. The rest of the day is yours to relax or explore, and then you'll meet up for dinner at one of Antigua's rooftop restaurants, which your leader can suggest.

Antigua to Acatenango Volcano
After breakfast, you head to Acatenango Volcano (3,976m/13,045 feet), Guatemala's third-highest peak. Starting at La Soledad, the hike takes you through four climate zones: farmland, cloud forest, alpine tree forest, and volcanic terrain. Lunch happens along the way, and you'll reach base camp in mid-afternoon with views of active Fuego volcano. Dinner's around the campfire as the sun sets and lava glows from Fuego.

- Day 4
Acatenango Volcano to Antigua
Wake early to see the sunrise over Fuego volcano. If you want the optional one-hour summit hike, that leaves camp early in the morning. Once everyone's back, you'll descend to the starting point from yesterday. Then you travel back to Antigua, grab lunch, and check into your hotel to rest up. Your afternoon and evening are free to do whatever you'd like.

Antigua to Ahuachapán
You get a later start this morning before heading from Antigua to El Salvador's Ruta de las Flores region. There's some time at the border, and you'll arrive in Ahuachapán early afternoon. Free time lets you explore the Pasaje La Concordia pedestrian area with murals and monuments, or visit Santa Teresa Hot Springs if that interests you. This evening, join your group for a cooking class where you'll make pupusas (stuffed corn flatbread) and eat what you prepare for dinner.

Ahuachapán to Coatepeque Lake
Early morning hike up Santa Ana Volcano in the Apaneca range (2,381m/7,812 feet). The summit shows you a crater with a turquoise lake and views across El Salvador's coffee region. After descending, you head to Coatepeque Lake for afternoon kayaking on this 50,000-year-old volcanic lake. While paddling, watch for green iguanas, painted wood turtles, and green herons.

Coatepeque Lake to El Tunco
You're leaving the highlands for the Pacific coast. After breakfast at your hotel, you travel to El Tunco, El Salvador's popular surf spot. The beach gets its name from a Salvadoran slang word for pigs, referring to a large boulder in the water. Your afternoon is free to walk the black sand beach or sit at an oceanfront restaurant. Surfing lessons are optional if you want to try the right-hand breaks.

Landmarks El Tunco - Day 8
El Tunco
Eat breakfast before heading out with a local guide to explore Tamanique's waterfalls. Bring your swimsuit for this jungle trek with stairs and uneven ground. You'll see four main waterfalls at different difficulty levels, with the largest standing over 40 meters (131 feet) high. You'll have several hours to swim and relax in the pools before returning to the beach this afternoon. An optional group dinner happens tonight to wrap up your trip.

El Tunco
Your trip ends after breakfast with no scheduled activities. You can leave whenever you're ready after checking out. If you want to stay longer in El Salvador, contact your booking agent ahead of time to add more nights.
