- Day 1
Chiang Mai to Doi Lor
Hotel pickup in Chiang Mai gets you to Mae Wang National Park in Doi Lor after about 1.5 hours. The rock formations at Pha Chor and Kew Sua Ten (Thailand's Grand Canyon) feature eroded soil pillars that reach 30 meters high, and you'll walk through the natural landscape for roughly two hours. A picnic lunch happens right there in the jungle, then it's on to Ob Luang National Park where you'll stay the night.

Ob Luang to Mae Sariang
After breakfast, the drive takes you to Mae Sariang in Mae Hong Son province. Along the way you'll see locals at roadside stops selling vegetables, mushrooms, and seasonal products, which gives a real sense of daily life out here. Once there, Chom Thong Temple sits on high ground with views across the town and river valley. You'll check in and have time to walk around the village and connect with people in the community.

Mae Sariang to Mae Sam Laep
Following breakfast, winding mountain roads lead you toward Mae Sam Laep after about an hour. This Thai-Myanmar border village has Burmese and Karen residents, and you'll see their culture firsthand. The Border School is worth checking out, then a boat goes down the Salawin River with mountains rising on both sides. Ban Tha Ta Fang Karen village comes next before heading back by boat. Lunch happens after, then you return to rest at the hotel.

Mae Sariang to Chiang Mai
An early start gets you to the morning market where locals shop for fresh food and you can watch the daily alms procession with monks. After breakfast, the route back to Chiang Mai passes through Hmong farmland where you'll see farmers at work, then continues to Doi Inthanon National Park (Thailand's highest peak at 2,565m/8,415ft). Wachirathan and Mae Klang waterfalls are on the itinerary, lunch happens at a local spot along the way, and you'll arrive back in Chiang Mai by evening.
