- Day 1
Taipei to Jiufen
You'll start with a scenic drive from Taipei heading to Jiufen, a hillside town known for its red lantern-lined alleys and old-world charm. Walking through Jiufen Old Street, you'll find vintage teahouses tucked into lantern-lit staircases while taking in views where the mountains meet the sea. The atmosphere here inspired the film Spirited Away, so you'll get a real sense of that nostalgic feeling. As evening comes and mist rolls in from the ocean, you'll settle into a local boutique B&B for the night.

Jiufen to Taichung
After having breakfast in Jiufen, you'll head westward toward Taichung and stop in Hsinchu along the way. There you can see the Chenghuang Temple, which dates back to 1748 and ranks among Taiwan's oldest temples. The Shinzhou House, a restored 1930s department store that's now a creative space, is worth checking out, and you'll sample local snacks at the temple's food street. By afternoon you'll arrive in Taichung and check into your 4-star hotel in the central area.

Sun Moon Lake
Your morning starts at Sun Moon Lake with a visit to Wenwu Temple. You'll take a scenic pleasure boat from Ita Thao Wharf, then cycle around the lake on a route that's gained international recognition. Next comes a hike through a grove of climbing bamboo before you reach Xuanguang Temple, a major site for Buddhist pilgrims seeking quiet reflection. By evening you'll return to your 4-star lakeview hotel to rest up.

Leaving Sun Moon Lake behind, you'll head deeper into the mountains toward Alishan, driving up over 2,000 meters through shifting landscapes with a meal stop along the way to take in the views. You'll visit a well-known tea farm and walk through Taiwan's tea fields to try the famous high mountain oolong tea. Once you arrive at Alishan National Forest Recreation Area, you'll ride the narrow-gauge mountain rail before settling into your 3-star hotel.

You'll have tea with a view at Alishanwin Tea House before heading back toward Taipei City.
