Itinerary
- Day 1
San José
Your GWA representative meets you at Juan Santamaria International Airport and arranges a private transfer into San José. Once you reach your hotel, you can settle in and rest up for the days ahead.
- Day 2
San José to Arenal
After breakfast, you'll pick up your rental car and drive toward Arenal. The town sits at the base of Arenal Volcano, surrounded by forests and natural hot springs. You'll check into your accommodations and have the evening to get comfortable in this area.

Landmarks/POIs Arenal Volcano - Day 3
Arenal
This day is completely yours to spend however you want. You could do birdwatching, try a canopy tour, walk across hanging bridges, or kayak on one of the local rivers. If you're interested in volcanoes, Arenal Volcano National Park is also worth visiting on your own schedule.

Arenal to Katira de Upala
After breakfast, you'll drive to Katira de Upala, a quiet village surrounded by green hills and flowing rivers. The Botanical Garden here is worth checking out if you're interested, and there are other local spots to explore depending on what you feel like doing.

Katira de Upala
You have another free day to make your own plans. A boat tour through Caño Negro Wildlife Refuge is highly recommended for seeing birds, fish, crocodiles, and other wildlife. The refuge sits on an important migration route, so you'll have good chances of spotting different species.

Landmarks/POIs Caño Negro Wildlife Refuge - Day 6
Katira de Upala to Sarapiqu\u00ed
You'll drive to Sarapiquí, where rainforest and rivers meet. The biodiversity here is incredible, making it great for spotting birds and exploring jungle trails. Consider doing a night hike to experience the rainforest when it becomes active after sunset.

Sarapiqu\u00ed to San José
The drive back to San José takes up most of the day. Once you arrive at your hotel in the capital, the rest of the time is yours. Check out local restaurants, walk through different neighborhoods, or take it easy at the hotel if you prefer.

San José Departure
Return your rental car and head to Juan Santamaria International Airport for your flight home. You'll have time to think back on everything you saw and did throughout your time in Costa Rica.
