Bangkok to Ayutthaya to Kamphaeng Phet
Early morning pickup from Bangkok takes you north to Ayutthaya, the former capital where you'll walk through temple ruins that tell centuries of history. Wat Yai Chaimongkhon, Wat Phanan Choeng, and Wat Mahathat are on the agenda, with Wat Mahathat being particularly striking because tree roots have wrapped around a Buddha head over the years. From there, you'll get out on a traditional longtail boat to see the ruins from the water, which gives you a completely different angle on everything. After lunch, the drive continues to Kamphaeng Phet where you'll check in and have the rest of the afternoon to yourself.

After a local lunch, the drive brings you to Chiang Mai, known as the Rose of the North.
