Keflavik to Reykjavik
You'll land at Keflavik airport and catch the Flybus shuttle to your hotel in Reykjavik. If your timing works out, there's free time to walk around the capital and get a feel for the city before settling in for the night.

- Day 2
Reykjavik to Akureyri
Meeting your guide at 09:00, you'll head west toward Borgarnes and do an easy walk around Grábók volcano crater with its greenish lava fields all around. From there, check out Glaumbaer, a historic turf house farm and folk museum. The drive continues through fjord scenery and mountain passes until you reach Akureyri, the main town in North Iceland. You'll have time to walk around and see what the town has to offer.

Akureyri to Mývatn
Start in Akureyri, taking in views over Eyjafjarður fjord from different vantage points. There's an optional whale watching tour at 09:00 if you want to add that. Later in the afternoon, you'll drive to Goðafoss waterfall, then spend time around Lake Mývatn checking out the lava formations at Kálfrströnd, the pseudo craters near Skútustaðir, and the Hverfjall tephra cone. Finish the day soaking in the Mývatn Nature Baths with geothermal water and views across the area.

Mývatn to East Iceland
You'll walk through Dimmuborgir, the maze-like lava formations called 'the dark castles', looking out for the trolls said to live there. In the afternoon, visit Námaskarð hot spring area with its bubbling mud pools and steaming vents. Then the route heads through the empty highlands with a lunar-like landscape toward East Iceland. Between June and August, there's a detour to see Dettifoss, a powerful waterfall.

East Iceland to Jökulsárlón
This day shows you the dramatic fjord landscape and small fishing villages spread along winding roads in the East Fjords. You'll stop to see a collection of stones and minerals along the route. The afternoon brings views of Vatnajökull, Europe's largest glacier, stretching across Southeast Iceland. You'll reach Jökulsárlón glacial lagoon filled with floating icebergs, have time to explore, and possibly spot seals in the water. A boat tour between the icebergs is included from May through October. After that, walk across Diamond Beach, the black sand shore where large icebergs wash up.

Jökulsárlón to Hella
You'll travel along Vatnajökull glacier and get glimpses of the national park with its highest mountains, alpine terrain, and that massive glacier. In the afternoon, drive across the Eldhraun lava field and the sandy desert of the south coast, with mountainous cliffs, glaciers, and waterfalls rising above. You'll experience the Icelandic Lava Show to see and feel heat from actual molten lava. Walk along Reynisfjara's black lava beach near Vík, visit Skógafoss waterfall at 60 meters high in Skógar village, then continue to Seljalandsfoss, a narrow waterfall that drops over the cliff. There's a trail behind the fall if you don't mind getting wet.

Hella to Reykjavik via Golden Circle
Today covers the Golden Circle route with several key stops. First, you'll go to Friðheimar to learn about Icelandic horses, their unique traits and background, plus see the geothermal greenhouse. Then head to the Geysir geothermal fields with their steam, hot springs, and bubbling pools. Watch Strokkur erupt every 5 to 7 minutes. You'll see Gullfoss, the double waterfall dropping 32 meters into the Hvítá river and beautiful any time of year. Travel inland to Thingvellir National Park, a UNESCO World Heritage site. Finish with a short city tour of Reykjavik before heading back.
