On clear days you can spot Gangkar Puensum, Bhutan's highest peak at 7,497 metres. From there you head back to Paro for the afternoon portion. You'll check out Ta Dzong with its National Museum inside, then walk through the fortress-monastery of Rinpung Dzong. Paro
This day centers on hiking to Taktsang Monastery, also called Tiger's Nest, which clings to a cliffside 900 metres above the Paro Valley. The round trip takes 4 to 6 hours, so come prepared for a full morning and early afternoon on the trail through moss-draped pine forests. Later, once you're back down, you'll head to the ruins of Drukgyal Dzong fortress built in 1644 and damaged by fire in 1951. The views from there toward Mount Jhomolhari at 7,314 metres are really something on clear days. You'll return to Paro for your last night.
