Itinerary
- Day 1
Ashgabat
After landing at Ashgabat International Airport, you'll meet your guide who takes you to the hotel for an early check-in. This afternoon, you've got plenty to see around the city. The Presidential Palace, Ruhyyet Palace, and Wedding Palace give you a sense of the country's architecture and government buildings. You'll also stop by the Ferries Wheel for views across the city, then check out the Constitution Monument, Arch of Neutrality, and Independence Park. If time allows, swing through the Ertogrul Gazy Mosque and take a look at the 2017 Sports and Housing facilities. By evening you're back at the hotel to settle in.

Ashgabat to Darvaza
Grab breakfast at the hotel, then head to the Horse Stable to see the Akhalteke horses, which are a national treasure here in Turkmenistan. After that, you're in for a long drive of about 4 hours heading to the Darvaza burning Gas Crater out in the Karakum desert. The landscape gets pretty interesting once you arrive, with water craters and mud formations scattered around. You'll camp overnight in either a Turkmen national yurt or a private tent, and then have a barbecue dinner to end the day.

Darvaza to Shavat (Turkmen/Uzbek border)
Start off with a picnic-style breakfast right at the Gas Crater, then spend about 6 hours driving to Shavat, which sits at the Turkmen and Uzbek border. It's a long stretch of driving through desert terrain, so you'll want to be ready for the road.
