Departure to Montevideo
Your flight departs for Montevideo, Uruguay's capital. It's the start of your road trip through the country, so settle in for the journey ahead.
- Day 2
Montevideo
You'll land in Montevideo and pick up your rental car at the airport. Head to your hotel to get settled. The city blends old and new architecture nicely, and the 30 km Rambla waterfront along Rio de la Plata is worth a stroll later if you have energy. Locals hang out here with their mate, so you'll get a feel for everyday life pretty quickly.

- Day 3
Montevideo
Today is yours to explore Montevideo however you like. Walk through different neighborhoods to check out the architectural mix, find historical landmarks, or catch some modern attractions. There's no set plan, so you can move at your own pace and focus on what interests you.

- Day 4
Montevideo to San Pedro de Timote
Drive about 2.5 hours west to San Pedro de Timote, stopping at the Wiebe dairy farm to tour the operation and taste their cheese. The family-run business, started by German descendants, produces on a significant scale. After that, continue through Florida to Estancia San Pedro de Timote. You'll have lunch (depending on arrival time) and dinner included, settling into authentic estancia life.

San Pedro de Timote
Spend the day at the estancia doing as much or as little as you want. Relax into the peaceful rhythm of farm life, or get out and explore the countryside around you on your own schedule.

San Pedro de Timote to Colonia del Sacramento
Drive about 4 hours west toward Colonia del Sacramento, a colonial town founded by the Portuguese in 1680. Spanish influence came later, and the town became a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1995. You'll notice the preserved architecture from both periods when you arrive.

Colonia del Sacramento
Wander the colonial streets of Colonia del Sacramento and explore the surrounding area. Take time to soak in the historic atmosphere and discover the town at your own pace. There's something appealing about just walking around these older neighborhoods without a strict itinerary.

- Day 8
Colonia del Sacramento to Paso de los Toros
Drive northeast about 3.5 hours to Paso de los Toros, a town on the banks of Rio Negro in the Tacuarembo department. It's known as birthplace of writer Mario Benedetti and the creation spot of Paso de los Toros tonic water. The Dr. Gabriel Terra Dam (also called Rincon del Bonete) was Uruguay's first hydroelectric dam and created a large artificial lake good for fishing and water sports.

- Day 9
Paso de los Toros
You have a free day in Paso de los Toros to do what appeals to you. Consider trying fishing or water sports on the artificial lake, or simply walk around town and relax if that's more your style.

Paso de los Toros to Valentines
Drive east about 4 hours to Estancia Los Platanos in Valentines. This region has low elevations and eastern plains with a distinctive landscape. Nearby Quebrada de los Cuervos national park is a gorge named for the vultures that circle above it. It's home to subtropical flora and fauna you won't find elsewhere in Uruguay, including over 100 tree species and diverse wildlife.

- Day 11
Valentines
You have a free day at the estancia. Take part in activities the property offers, or wander the interesting landscape around you. It's a good chance to slow down and experience the region without pressure.

- Day 12
Valentines to Punta del Este
Drive about 4 hours 30 minutes east to Punta del Este, Uruguay's exclusive seaside resort often called the South American St. Tropez. The peninsula has 40 km of fine sandy beaches along the Atlantic. During high season (mid-November to mid-March), the population jumps from around 10,000 to 100,000, so it gets lively.

- Days 13 - 14
Punta del Este
Spend two relaxing days in Punta del Este. Rest at your hotel and enjoy the beaches. If you want to do more, there are optional activities like Casa Pueblo (a unique Mediterranean-style building carved into a clifftop), the Ralli Foundation Museum with its art collection, Isla de Lobos nature reserve with seal and sea lion colonies, or Isla Gorriti with historical ruins and water sports.

Punta del Este to Montevideo
Drive back to Montevideo, about 2 hours west, for your final night. You'll return your rental car before heading to the airport, so this brings your journey through Uruguay back to where it started.



- Day 16
Departure from Montevideo
Return to the airport, turn in your rental car, and prepare for departure. Check your luggage and get ready to head home.
