Itinerary

  1. Day 1

    Chengdu

You'll arrive at Chengdu Airport and head straight to your hotel. The rest of the day is yours to settle in and relax, or if you're feeling up to it, wander over to Jinli Pedestrian Street. This 550-meter food street is where locals spend their evenings, so it's a good spot to grab dinner and get a feel for how the city operates. The street has tons of small vendors selling everything from snacks to full meals, so you can sample different things as you walk around.

    Start point
Chengdu Shi, Sichuan, China (We will pick you up at the Chengdu Shuangliu International Airport)

    Optional Activities

  2. Day 2

    Dujiangyan

After breakfast, you'll drive out to Dujiangyan, which takes a bit of time but it's worth it. Once there, a guide will take you through the ancient Dujiangyan Irrigation System, which has been working for over 2,000 years without a dam. You'll walk across some suspension bridges and get explanations of how this engineering feat actually functions. From there, it's on to Qingcheng Mountain, one of China's four major Taoist mountains. You'll stop at temples along the way, and then you can choose to either hike to the summit or take the cable car up. Either way, the views and the temples throughout the mountain are what make this worth the trip.

  3. Day 3

    Dujiangyan to Chengdu

This day starts early at 7:30 am when you head to Dujiangyan Giant Panda Base for some hands-on volunteer work. You'll change into work clothes and actually participate in caring for the pandas, cleaning their rooms, carrying fresh bamboo, and visiting the panda villa. There's a documentary to watch and lunch at the base. During the afternoon, you'll help make steamed corn bread that the pandas eat, and you'll see the keepers do their daily routines. At the end, you get a Panda Volunteer Certificate. Later on, your guide takes you to Sanxingdui Museum to see Bronze Age artifacts that were discovered back in the 1980s. It's a full day but pretty unforgettable.

You'll hike up the mountain to see the Buddha's 1,051 individual curls of hair carved into the head. Once you finish touring the Buddha, it's time to head to the airport for your flight home.

Having corresponded with a number of tour companies, this one not only provided the best rates but customer service that was second to none. Grace Chen and I had a lot of back and forth communication as I had designed my tours and wanted Grace to work on my plan. All through Grace was very patient and understanding. She was honest in explaining the parts of my trip that could be shortened as a result of the winter weather. She gave useful suggestions while preserving my original plan. I received a detailed itinerary and very knowledgeable and friendly tour guides who were conversant in English. The guides did their best to show and explain to us in details the parts that were in our itinerary. From then We as a family, learnt a lot about the Chinese culture and traditions along with a little but of Mandarin. For my next trip to China, Grace would be the person I would look for. I traveled with my wife and 2 kids ( 6 & 11 years old) for 12 days covering Shanghai, Zhangjiajie, Changsha, Guilin and Beijing. Hotels and meals were not reviewed as we booked hotels and planned our own meals. The guides helped us find restaurants serving halal meals.
