- Day 1
Nairobi to Arusha
Your safari kicks off at 08:00 when you board the overland truck in Nairobi and drive into Tanzania, reaching Arusha by afternoon. This gateway town gives you time to walk through local markets and visit a nearby Maasai village to connect with the community. You'll stay at the Meserani Snake Park tonight, where there's a collection of snakes, crocodiles, and other reptiles to check out before bed.

Arusha to Serengeti National Park
After transferring to dedicated safari vehicles, you'll cross the Great Rift Valley and head into the Ngorongoro Conservation Area, driving around the crater rim before pushing out onto the Serengeti plains. Game drives throughout the day give you solid chances to spot lions, leopards, cheetahs, zebras, wildebeest, and plenty more. By evening you'll be at an unfenced campsite where you can fall asleep listening to the African bush around you.

- Days 3 - 4
Serengeti National Park to Ngorongoro Crater
Start with one more game drive through the Serengeti to catch any wildlife you missed, then head back to the Ngorongoro Crater rim for camping. The next morning you'll descend into the crater on steep roads and spot buffalo, rhino, leopard, and lion (giraffes can't handle the terrain). After lunch at camp, you'll pack up and drive back to Arusha, wrapping up these crater days.

Arusha to Bagamoyo
You'll drive toward the Indian Ocean coast heading for Zanzibar, and on clear days Mount Kilimanjaro's snow-capped peak shows up along the way. Reaching Bagamoyo, a historic port town from the late 1700s known for its dhow sailing boats, you'll settle into accommodation on the outskirts near palm-lined beaches overlooking the Indian Ocean.

- Day 6
Bagamoyo to Dar es Salaam
A 2 to 3 hour coastal drive takes you to Dar es Salaam, Tanzania's main port and cultural hub with Arab architecture, colorful markets, and turquoise waters. You'll have free time to swim or walk around the city before catching the ferry to Zanzibar tomorrow.

Dar es Salaam to Zanzibar
The ferry gets you to Zanzibar in the morning with the day open to explore Stone Town independently, wandering the cobbled alleys and taking in the colonial architecture. Spend the next two days at northern beaches relaxing, swimming, and snorkeling. Spice plantations, tropical scenery, and marine life are all accessible, plus optional massages, yacht trips, and sunset dhow cruises if those appeal to you.
