Itinerary
- Day 1
Inverness to Orkney Islands
Starting north from Inverness along the North Coast 500, you'll pass Dunrobin Castle overlooking the Moray Firth before reaching John O'Groats at the UK mainland's northernmost point. After a stroll around this famous landmark, you'll take the ferry across the Pentland Firth to Orkney Islands. During the crossing, watch for grey seals and orcas in the water. Once you arrive in Kirkwall, there's free time to walk around the town before heading to your accommodation in the late afternoon.

Orkney Islands
This day focuses on Orkney's prehistoric sites. You'll start at the Standing Stones of Stenness, a monument dating back around 5,000 years. Then head to the Ring of Brodgar stone circle, followed by Skara Brae, a well-preserved Stone Age village that offers real insight into how people lived thousands of years ago. Later, check out the dramatic Yesnaby Cliffs with their rugged sea stacks, and look for puffins if you're lucky. Weather and tidal conditions permitting, you'll also visit the Brough of Birsay, a tidal island with archaeological sites and views over the sea.

- Day 3
Orkney Islands to Inverness
You'll start the morning at a local farm to see Mangalitsa pigs with their woolly coats, then visit the Italian Chapel, a WWII monument built by Italian prisoners of war. After that, board the ferry back to mainland Scotland and head to Duncansby Head at the northeastern tip for views over the North Sea. Continue to Lybster, a village on the rugged Caithness coast, then finish at Dornoch with its cathedral and streets before returning to Inverness by early evening.
