    Vienna to Muscat

    You'll depart Vienna and head toward Muscat with a connection through Doha. The flight takes you overnight, so you'll arrive in Oman's capital the following day.

    Muscat

    After landing in Muscat, you'll transfer to your hotel and settle in. Once you're ready, head out to check out the embassy and government district, including a photo stop at the Sultan's palace. From there, the National Museum gives you insight into Oman's history. Later, walk through the Muttrah Souq, one of the oldest markets around. Your evening includes a sunset dhow cruise with dinner on the water.

You'll stop at Quriyat, a traditional fishing village, then see the Bimmah Sinkhole with its clear water. Wadi Tiwi comes next, where you can see the narrow gorge, local villages, and date and banana plantations. By afternoon, you'll reach Sur to see how traditional dhow boats get built, and stop at the Ajay lighthouse.     Sur to Nizwa

    After breakfast at your camp, you'll visit a Bedouin shelter to learn about life in the desert. Then travel toward Nizwa with a photo break at Birkat Al-Maouz, one of Oman's well-known ruined villages. You'll see the historic Falaj irrigation system, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Once you reach Nizwa, the former capital, the afternoon is yours to explore on your own.

Walk through the centuries-old souq where you'll find Omani daggers, copper, silver jewelry, and handicrafts. Visit Bahla Fort, built in the third millennium BC with Oman's longest surrounding wall, then explore Jabrin Castle with its 55 rooms, ornate doors, and frescoes. On the way back to Muscat, stop at the ancient ruined city of Tanuf.
