Itinerary
- Day 1
Overnight Flight to Muscat
Your overnight flight gets you to Muscat, and you'll touch down ready to start exploring Oman. After clearing customs and picking up your bags, there's time to settle in before the real adventure kicks off.
- Day 2
Jabrin - Nizwa
Head inland by minibus through mountain oasis country to reach Bahla Fort, the largest mud fortress around here. From there, you'll move on to Jabrin Palace to check out the architecture, then continue to Nizwa oasis town where the Akhdar Mountains rise up in front of you. Walk through Nizwa Fort and spend time at the souk browsing silver jewelry and the traditional curved daggers locals craft.

Al Hamra - Jebel Shams - Nizwa
This morning finds you in the mountain village of Misfah with views down across terraced fields. Later you'll see Al Hamra's old town with its dark red clay brick buildings, then visit Bait-al-Safah Museum where you can watch traditional bread baking and coffee making. An off-road vehicle takes you through Wadi Ghul toward Jebel Shams mountain, where the Grand Canyon of Oman opens up before you, a gorge dropping over 1,000 metres from a plateau about 2,000 metres high. Back in Nizwa by evening for a walk along Al-Aqur Wall.

Wadi Bani Khalid - Wahiba Desert
You'll explore Birkat al-Mauz oasis and see the ancient Falaj irrigation system, that UNESCO heritage network of canals running through the landscape. Wadi Bani Khalid comes next with its turquoise blue pools where you can cool off. After that, you're switching to an off-road vehicle for the Wahiba Desert, driving through golden sand dunes out to your camp. At sunset, there's tea and traditional food, then later you head deeper into the quiet desert under the stars.

Sur - Wadi Tiwi - Bimah Sinkhole - Muscat
If you're up for sunrise over the dunes, there's breakfast waiting after. A jeep ride takes you through more desert landscape, then you transition to a minibus heading toward Sur. There's a stop at a traditional dhow shipyard to see hand-crafted wooden boats built the centuries-old way. Wadi Tiwi's small pools and birdlife come next, followed by the Bimah Sinkhole dropping 60 metres down. Finally you drive through coastal mountains on your way back to Muscat.

Muscat
Muscat's capital shows off its white buildings and you'll start at Sultan Qaboos Mosque with its massive hand-knotted carpet and chandelier studded with over 600,000 Swarovski crystals. The fish market brings the energy and hustle, then Nakhl fortress and mineral springs offer something different. The National Museum covers Oman's cultural side, you'll pass the Sultan's Palace exterior, and finish at Muttrah Souk along the Corniche where spices and incense fill the air.

Muscat to Salalah
A flight takes you down to Salalah in Dhofar, the frankincense region. Near the fishing village of Mughsail you'll see the blowholes where surf shoots through rock formations depending on the tides. The route to the Qara Mountains passes numerous frankincense trees. After checking in and grabbing lunch at your hotel, the afternoon includes a city tour hitting the tomb of Nabi Amran, the frankincense museum, and the Shanfari Mosque from outside, plus time at the local souk.

Salalah
Wadi Darbat is one of Oman's most beautiful wadis and you'll spend time there seeing the flora and fauna, including rare birds and plant species. The ancient port city of Samharam comes next, a former trade hub for frankincense, myrrh and other goods. The rest of your day is open, so you can relax at the beach hotel in Salalah and settle in however you like.

Salalah Departure
