Itinerary

  1. Day 1

    Luxembourg

You'll arrive in Luxembourg and get settled at your accommodation. The city's worth exploring on your own terms, and you'll notice how it mixes modern European character with its grand ducal past pretty well. By evening, head to one of the local restaurants for dinner, where you'll find plenty of cosy spots to choose from.

  2. Day 2

    Luxembourg to Trier

Start cycling from Luxembourg through the Alzette Valley, passing through small villages surrounded by green forests and colourful fields as the terrain rolls along. You'll reach Remich on the Moselle, which sits among vineyards and forests. Then follow the cycle path that runs right along the river through wine country, crossing where the Saar meets at Konz before arriving in Trier. There you'll check out some major Roman buildings, including the imperial palace, one of the largest Roman structures north of the Alps that's now used as a Protestant church.

  3. Day 3

Trier to Moselle Valley (Zeltingen or Bernkastel-Kues)

Cycle along the Moselle banks starting from Trittenheim, moving through wine villages with character. You'll cross one of the oldest bridges and then climb up into vineyards where you get those wide views of the valley below. Pass through Neumagen-Dhron, which holds the distinction of being Germany's oldest wine village, then continue to Piesport to see a well-restored Roman cellar from the 4th century. Finish your ride in either Zeltingen or Bernkastel-Kues, both towns full of half-timbered houses and historic market squares.

From Traben-Trarbach you'll cycle toward the Moselle loop at Zell and can visit Marienburg castle, which sits high on a ridge overlooking vineyards in all directions. After that, you'll see the Calmont, Europe's steepest vineyard, before reaching Cochem. There the Reichsburg castle dominates the views from above the Moselle River.

Back on the route you'll ride through Kobern-Gondorf, where half-timbered houses and the market square show off local history. From there, cycle between the river and vineyards through Winningen until you reach Koblenz, where the Moselle joins the Rhine.
