Itinerary
- Day 1
Trier
Your first day takes you through Trier, which happens to be Germany's oldest city with over 2,000 years of history packed into its streets. You'll start by checking out the Porta Nigra, one of the most well-preserved Roman gates from ancient times. After that, head to the Roman amphitheater and the Imperial Baths to get a sense of what life was like back then. By evening, you'll wind down at a traditional tavern with a glass of local Riesling wine, which is exactly what Trier does best.

Trittenheim to Piesport
Today you're cycling along the Moselle River, starting from Trittenheim and riding through wine villages the entire way. You'll cross one of the oldest bridges in the region and then head up into the vineyards where you get those views of the whole valley below. Later, you'll pass through Neumagen-Dhron, which is actually Germany's oldest wine village, and continue on to Piesport. There you'll explore a restored Roman cellar from the 4th century, which gives you another dose of the region's ancient roots.

Zeltingen
This side trip takes you to Bernkastel-Kues where the market square is surrounded by half-timbered houses that look like they stepped out of another era. You'll walk through narrow cobblestone streets and stop at local taverns to try regional wines. From there, you head to Zeltingen to see its baroque buildings, which show off the Moselle's deep cultural traditions in a different way than what you've already seen.

Traben-Trarbach to Cochem
You'll depart from Traben-Trarbach and cycle to the Moselle loop at Zell, where Marienburg castle sits on a mountain ridge 900 years into its history with commanding views over everything around it. The route then passes by Calmont, which is Europe's steepest vineyard and quite something to see from below. Later you'll arrive in Cochem and check out the Reichsburg castle, an imposing structure that overlooks the river and dominates the town's skyline.

Cochem to Koblenz
After a short cycle from your starting point, you reach Moselkern and make a detour to Eltz Castle, which has that fairytale quality to it. Then it's back on the bike through Kobern-Gondorf with its historic half-timbered houses, and you'll pedal between the river and vineyards to Winningen before arriving in Koblenz. From there, take the cable car up to Ehrenbreitstein Fortress for the views where the Moselle meets the Rhine at Deutsches Eck. Spend time exploring the fortress and wandering through Koblenz's historic sights.

Your journey ends here in Koblenz with individual departures. By this point, you've cycled along the Moselle, seen castles and vineyards, explored wine villages, and gotten a real feel for this region's mix of Roman history and medieval charm.
