You'll be met at Lima's airport and transferred to your hotel for a 2 pm welcome meeting. After that, walk through downtown Lima checking out Plaza Mayor and the San Francisco Monastery's catacombs. Head to Alameda de Chabuca Granda, a local favorite, and try some street food including Peruvian doughnuts and mazamorra morada. Tonight, dinner is at one of the city's top restaurants with views overlooking ancient ruins.

Lima to Puerto Maldonado to Amazon Rainforest
Fly to Puerto Maldonado, then take a bus to the port to board motorized canoes into the Amazon rainforest. Watch for macaws, herons, alligators and capybaras along the way. You'll arrive at Inkaterra Hacienda Concepcion, your home for the next two nights in a 380-hectare private ecological reserve with 25 cabanas and expert local guides. After lunch, explore the Concepcion Trails with a guide, then join a Twilight River boat ride to spot caimans. Dinner features local Amazon ingredients.

Start with breakfast, then board a dugout canoe across Lake Sandoval to see red howler monkeys, giant river otters and macaws. Gather around an Amazon bonfire with a local guide for drinks, snacks and jungle stories. Travel back to Puerto Maldonado and fly to Cusco, the former center of the Inca Empire. You'll arrive early afternoon and head out with your leader to explore the city. Visit Plaza de Armas and the UNESCO World Heritage-listed Cusco Cathedral, built atop an Inca palace. Meet a local historian guide who'll share insights into the building's art and architecture. Then visit the Coricancha Temple, once the most important temple in the Inca Empire. The evening is free to discover Cusco's restaurants and live music scene.

This is a free day to explore Cusco at your own pace. Visit San Pedro market to practice bargaining and take photos, or return to Plaza de Armas for another look at the cathedral. Cusco to Sacred Valley to Ollantaytambo
Travel through the Sacred Valley to Ollantaytambo, passing maize crops and terraced valley walls. Visit the AMA Restaurant in Urubamba, a social enterprise providing job training for single mothers. Then meet the Willoq community to learn about local textile techniques and make your own bracelet with local women. You'll have a festive pachamanca lunch, then continue to Ollantaytambo. Explore the archaeological site with an expert guide who'll explain the Inca's engineering skills evident in aqueducts, irrigation canals, dams and terraces.

Ollantaytambo to Aguas Calientes to Machu Picchu
Travel in style aboard the 360 Machu Picchu Train from Ollantaytambo to Aguas Calientes. High domed windows and an open-air observation carriage showcase incredible Andes views. Drop your belongings at the hotel, then take a short bus ride up the winding road to Machu Picchu. Your guide will lead you through the ruins and share stories of this 15th-century site, one of the Seven Wonders of the World. Later, take the bus back down to Aguas Calientes.

Machu Picchu to Ollantaytambo to Cusco
Rise before sunrise and head back up to Machu Picchu for your second visit. Explore more of the temples, palaces and living quarters. Look at the mortar-free design that's earthquake-resistant and the precisely cut stones that fit so tightly a knife won't pass between them. Take the bus back down to Aguas Calientes, then catch a train to Ollantaytambo. From there, drive back to Cusco for the evening.

Cusco to Lima
In the afternoon, fly from Cusco to Lima where you'll spend the night. In the morning, you'll depart Peru and head to Chile for the next stage of your adventure.

Lima to Santiago
Take your flight from Lima to Santiago. You'll be met at the airport and taken to your accommodation with a welcome meeting at 6 pm. If you arrive early, walk through Parque Forestal just steps from your hotel. After the meeting, head out for dinner with your leader and group. Chilean food is hearty and fresh, from baked casseroles to razor clams cooked in parmesan cheese.

Buenos Aires to Puerto Iguazu
Transfer to the airport and board a flight to Puerto Iguazu in Argentina. You'll spend the next two days exploring Iguazu Falls from both the Argentinian and Brazilian sides. Today focuses on the Brazilian side, which offers unforgettable panoramic views. At over 2km in length and made up of 275 waterfalls, Iguazu is taller than Niagara Falls and spans a wider area than Victoria Falls. You can opt to take an optional helicopter flight for an eagle-eye view.
