The accommodation was a spacious and friendly guest house. Andrei and Irene are the best hosts and I felt that they had become friends. Andrei took touching care of me, even when I was the only one, and also showed me historical sights on the days when it would have been inconvenient to go on the water. He knows the area like the back of his hand, knows where to find the different bird species, and in the evenings we discussed together what we had seen during the day. For the photographers he had useful tips to get the best shots, because he is also an expert here. Breakfast is simple - Romanesque style - and for lunch and dinner we had fish of all varieties, plus the occasional homemade liquor and delicious brownies. The whole experience was genuine and unadulterated and it was an honor to get such a glimpse into their way of life. The journey (by bus from Bucharest - 4 hours for 120 LEI) went smoothly and Andrei picked me up from the bus station in Tulcea for the half hour journey to Mahmudia. I highly recommend this trip for anyone who wants to see - and photograph - the exuberant birdlife of the Danube Delta.Show moreTrip date: April 2023

Bunica MariaOperator•Written October 2024I recommend Henri Coanda Airport from Bucharest. From there you can come by bus to Tulcea (around 30 EUR per person one way). From Tulcea we can order a taxi (25 EUR per car, one way). Starting from end of April till beginning of October there are a lot of things to be seen here.
