- Day 1
Umbwe Gate
Your driver picks you up from the hotel in Moshi and takes you to Umbwe Gate for registration and formalities. The trek kicks off through dense rainforest where you'll see huge fig trees towering overhead. The path is thick with vegetation as you begin your ascent on the Umbwe route.

Umbwe to Barranco Valley
After breakfast you'll move into the second stage of trekking. The landscape shifts as you reach the tree line, where rainforest transitions into moss-covered trees and heathland. You'll tackle a challenging ridge section that brings you down into Barranco Valley, so pace yourself for this stretch.

Landmarks Barranco Valley - Day 3
Barranco Camp to Karanga Valley
The real work starts after breakfast with the ascent of Great Barranco Wall. This is steep and demanding, but once you push through, the route continues to Karanga Valley Camp at 4070 m/13,353 ft. The southern glaciers of Kibo come into view as compensation for the hard climbing.

Karanga Valley to Uhuru Peak to Mweka Camp
Another hour from Karanga Valley gets you to Uhuru Peak, Kilimanjaro's summit and the highest point in Africa. You'll spend time taking in views from the continent's best vantage point, then descend back to Barafu Camp for a rest. Later you'll continue down to Mweka Camp at 3100 m/10,171 ft for the night.

Mweka Camp to Mweka Gate
After a substantial breakfast you'll make the final descent, walking gently downhill through tropical rainforest to Mweka Gate. The mountain crew performs a traditional ceremony and hands you your summit certificate as you say goodbye. The trek officially ends here after your successful climb.
