Arrival in Muscat
You'll touch down at Muscat Airport and get transferred to your hotel. After the flight, you'll probably want to rest up and get your bearings before the week ahead starts.

Muscat City Tour
This morning kicks off with a tour of Muscat's main sights. You'll see the Sultan Qaboos Mosque and check out Bait al-Zubair Museum to get a sense of local history and culture. Walking through the old town, you'll come across the historic Jalali and Mirani forts along with various other fortifications. The al-Alam Palace is worth a photo stop. Later, you'll have free time to wander the Mutrah souk at your own pace and browse the shops and stalls.

Hajar Mountains to Nizwa
Today you're heading into the Hajar Mountains, driving about 3.5 hours and covering roughly 266 km. You'll pass through dramatic rock formations and stop at oases like Fanjah and Birkat al Mawz. Nizwa, the historic old capital, comes next, where the fortress gives you views across the city. The souk here is packed with fruit vendors, spice merchants, and local craftspeople selling Bedouin jewelry. You'll also check out Bahla Fortress (a UNESCO site) and tour a traditional pottery workshop. Before wrapping up, there's the beautifully restored Jabrin palace with its ornate wooden ceilings, and finally the ruins of Tanuf where you can see the old falaj irrigation systems in action.

Ibra, Mudayrib and Wahiba Sands Desert
After breakfast, head to Ibra and walk through the old town with its traditional mud architecture. The women's market there has its own unique character. Next is Mudayrib to see more mud buildings and watchtowers. By afternoon, you're entering the Wahiba Sands desert, which spreads across about 15,000 square kilometers of dunes all the way to the Indian Ocean. If you're renting a car, you'll hand it off to an experienced 4x4 driver at the desert entrance. The drive through the dunes takes you to your camp for the night, roughly 3 hours and 216 km from where you started today.

- Day 5
Wadi Bani Khaled, Sur and Ras Al Jinz Turtle Beach
Start at Wadi Bani Khaled for a walk through the landscape where blue water meets mountains and desert. Swimming is an option if you want it. From there, head to Sur, a fishing village on a lagoon. Around 9 p.m., you'll go to Ras Al Jinz turtle beach to see around 30,000 sea turtles coming ashore to lay eggs at night, a natural spectacle that happens year-round. The drive is about 3 hours and 182 km, though add another 1.5 hours and 100 km if you're not staying overnight at the beach.

- Day 6
Sur to Muscat Coastal Route
After breakfast in Sur, you'll explore the lagoon village and its shipbuilding heritage, where fresh fish gets sold right on the beach. Heading north along the coast takes you to Qalhat and the mausoleum of Bibi Myriam. You'll drive through picturesque fishing villages like Tiwi and Wadi Shab, both with lush green pockets of vegetation. Fins Beach is a stop where you can swim if you'd like. Quriyat, a former major port, comes next. The day's big sight is the Bimah Sinkhole, a limestone crater with striking blue-green water. After that, it's roughly 4 hours and 128 km back to Muscat.

Your trip wraps up today. Depending on when your flight leaves, you can fit in some final swimming or get in some last-minute shopping before heading to the airport to say goodbye to Oman.
