The path leads through 5 major Omani destinations: Muscat's Sultan Qaboos Grand Mosque, Sur's dhow yards, Wahiba Sands desert camp, Nizwa's historic fort, and Jebel Akhdar's mountain villages. Features 6 nights in 4-star hotels, daily breakfast, 5 lunches, and 5 dinners with traditional Omani cuisine.
- Days 1-2
Muscat
Begin your Oman adventure in Muscat. Visit the Sultan Qaboos Grand Mosque in the early morning. Women need to bring a headscarf and wear loose clothing covering shoulders and knees. A recent visitor shared: "The mosque's intricate architecture and massive chandelier were breathtaking, but go before 11 AM when it closes to visitors." The Muttrah Souk is best explored in the late afternoon when it's cooler. Browse the winding alleys for traditional Omani frankincense and silver jewelry. Want to see local life in action? Visit the nearby fish market early in the morning.
- Day 3
Muscat to Wahiba Sands (340km)
- Day 4
Wahiba Sands to Nizwa (200km)
- Day 5
Nizwa Exploration
- Day 6
Jebel Akhdar (Green Mountain)

7 Day Oman Itinerary, incl. Muscat and Wahiba Sands
Cultural immersion spans 10 destinations from Muscat's Grand Mosque to Wahiba's dunes. The route includes UNESCO sites, swimming in Wadi Shab's caves, Nizwa Fort tours, and desert camping. Features snorkeling at Dimaniyat Islands and turtle watching at Ras Al Jinz.
- Day 1
Muscat Arrival
- Day 2
Muscat City Exploration
Visit Sultan Qaboos Grand Mosque in the morning between 8:00-11:00 AM. Women should bring a headscarf and wear long sleeves. Next, see the Royal Opera House before exploring Mutrah Souq in the late afternoon when it's cooler. "The Mutrah Souq is best explored around 4 PM when locals come out to shop and the heat subsides. Bargaining is expected - start at 50% of the asking price."
- Day 3
Coastal Adventure to Wadi Shab
Take a 2-hour drive east to Bimmah Sinkhole for a morning swim. Head to Wadi Shab where a short boat ride (1 OMR) leads to a 45-minute hike to hidden pools. Bring water shoes since the rocks get slippery. In the evening, drive to Ras al Jinz for turtle watching. The 9 PM viewing slot is usually less crowded than the 5 AM option.
- Day 4
Sur to Wahiba Sands
Visit Sur's traditional dhow shipyards before going to Wadi Bani Khalid's emerald pools. Bring a modest swimsuit for this public area. Drive to your desert camp in Wahiba Sands for the afternoon. "Request a sunset dune drive - the colors are incredible and your driver can find a private spot away from other tourists."
- Day 5
Nizwa and Mountain Adventures
Leave the desert early to reach Nizwa Fort at opening time (9 AM). Visit the souk before it gets too hot. Drive to the ancient village of Al Hamra, then continue to Jebel Shams, Oman's highest peak. Pack layers as temperatures drop about 15°C at the summit. The drive from Nizwa to Jebel Shams takes about 1.5 hours on mountain roads.
- Day 6
Dimaniyat Islands
- Day 7
Departure
7 Day Oman Itinerary, incl. Muscat and Nizwa
Rich cultural heritage unfolds across 8 destinations including Muscat's Grand Mosque, Sur's dhow yards, and the 3,048-meter Jebel Shams. The package includes 4 dinners, stays at the 4-star Al Falaj Hotel and Arabian Oryx camp, plus visits to Nizwa Fort and Wadi Bani Khalid's emerald pools.
- Day 1
Muscat
Start your first day at the Sultan Qaboos Grand Mosque before 8:00 AM to beat the heat. Remember to bring a scarf to meet the dress code. Inside you'll find an impressive Iranian carpet weighing 21 tons. Visit Muttrah Souk after 4 PM when it's cooler and livelier with local shoppers. A recent visitor shared: "The mixed aromas of frankincense, spices, and jasmine in Muttrah Souk created such an authentic Arabian atmosphere."
- Day 2
Coastal Route to Sur
Take an early morning drive along the coast for about 3 hours. Make your first stop at Bimmah Sinkhole. Bring water shoes since the rocks can be slippery. Next up is Wadi Shab where you'll need about 30-45 minutes to reach the main pools. Bring a dry bag for your electronics and wear good walking shoes. Finish your day in Sur to watch the sunset over the traditional dhow boats in the ancient shipyards.
- Day 3
Wahiba Sands Desert Experience
Start with Wadi Bani Khalid's emerald pools, about 2 hours from Sur. Wear swimwear under your clothes for modesty. The cave hike takes 20 minutes and needs shoes with good grip. Head to the desert in the afternoon. The drive will be bumpy, so try to get window seats for the best views. One visitor noted: "Watching sunset from the dunes was magical, but bring warmer layers - desert evenings get surprisingly chilly."
- Day 4
Mountains and Villages
Get an early start to hike Misfat Al Abriyeen village at 1000m elevation while it's cool. The old falaj irrigation channels look best in morning light. Next is Jebel Shams. Pack jackets for the 3,048m elevation. Visit the "Grand Canyon of Oman" in late afternoon when the shadows create stunning views.
- Day 5
Nizwa
If possible, plan for the Friday morning cattle market. Visit the fort when it opens at 9 AM and climb the towers before it gets hot. Explore the souq after 10 AM when shops open. Try free samples of premium Omani dates in the date market section. Walk through the 1400-year-old Harat Al Aqr quarter in late afternoon for the best photos.
- Day 6
Jabal Akhdar
Visit Birkat al Mouz's banana plantations early when farmers work the falaj channels. You'll need a 4WD to drive up Jabal Akhdar (Green Mountain). See the rose terraces (best in March-April during harvest) and the pomegranate and walnut groves. Bring warm clothes as it's usually 15°C cooler than Muscat.
- Day 7
Return to Muscat

- Adventure Across Oman
As two german girls (20 and 21yo) we’ve been a bit lost in the huge area of Mascat. Very spontaneously we booked the desert tour and exactly 24h later we were picked up at our hotel by our guide Yousuf. The trip was totally worth it! We had a wonderful time and with Yousuf a guide with whom we really connected. He answered all of our questions about the Arabic culture and also showed big interest in our life in Germany and our studies. The desert for sure is a must-see in Oman. It is very peaceful and when you watch the sunset on the dunes you don’t want to leave. We slept under the stars and in the morning got to feed some baby goats and camels, also we did camel riding. On the way back to our hotel we went to Wadi Shab. In the Internet it is said that you need to see this famous water cave and now we know why! Afterwards he also showed us around in Mascat and Matrah and got us traditional arabic food. He was very helpful for us, also the days after the desert tour. Also we could decide by ourselves which things we’d like to see on the way to the desert and back. We are sad to leave, not only because of the beautiful nature of Oman but also because we really found a funny friend in Yousuf. For everyone who is still thinking about booking this tour: We are two students with not much income but this time was worth every penny! We hope you have a great time.
