Itinerary
- Day 1
Arusha/Moshi to Rongai Gate
You'll be picked up from your hotel in Arusha or Moshi and driven about 5 hours to Rongai Gate near the Kenya border. After registering, the hike starts through montane forest where you might catch sight of wildlife moving through the trees. Lunch happens out on the trail, and then you'll continue on to your first campsite for the night.

Landmarks Rongai Gate Mount Kilimanjaro - Day 2
Rongai Route Moorland Hike
This day takes you through Kilimanjaro's moorland on the Rongai route, which is relatively short but steep. Mawenzi Peak stays visible ahead of you throughout the trek, giving you a sense of the terrain you'll be crossing over the coming days.

Landmarks Mawenzi Peak - Day 3
Mawenzi Tarn Acclimatization Day
You'll do a shorter hike in the morning, then rest for the rest of the afternoon and evening. The route is steep but not long, ending at Mawenzi Tarn campsite which sits below Mawenzi Peak. From here you get views of both Mawenzi and Kibo peaks towering above the camp.

Landmarks Mawenzi Peak Kibo Peak - Day 4
Kibo Camp
The day involves crossing the saddle's lunar landscape to reach Kibo Camp, your last stop before attempting the summit. Kibo Camp sits right below the Kibo cone with clear, uninterrupted views of what you'll be climbing tomorrow night.

Landmarks Kibo Peak - Day 5
Uhuru Peak Summit
Around midnight you'll start the final ascent to Uhuru Peak, Africa's highest point, hiking by flashlight for roughly six hours. The push to Gilman's Point at the crater rim is the hardest part. From there to Uhuru Peak the climb eases up a bit, with crater rim hiking taking about two hours. After reaching the summit and getting photos, you'll descend to Horombo Hut.

Marangu Gate
After breakfast you'll finish the trek by descending to Marangu Gate, moving through the cloud forest. The trail can get slippery so watch your footing carefully. Your transport will be at the gate ready to take you back to your hotel.
