Itinerary
- Day 1
Bastia to Saint-Florent
You'll arrive in Bastia and start by wandering through the old town's narrow alleyways and checking out the market square with its local activity and vendors. The harbor area gives you a sense of the city's maritime character. After that, you'll drive through vineyard-covered countryside heading toward Saint-Florent, a small Mediterranean-style town where you'll spend your first night. The marina setting here sets a nice tone for what's ahead in Corsica.

- Day 2
Saint-Florent to Balagne Region
If you're traveling between July and September, you'll visit a cedrat lemon plantation in Barretalli and try some local liqueur production. From there, the drive takes you through the rocky Désert des Agriates landscape and past the bay of Ostriconi before heading into the Balange region where vineyards, olive groves, and hillside villages dot the hillsides. You'll end up in L'Île-Rousse, Calvi, or a nearby area for the night.

- Day 3
Balagne to Corte
Start your day checking out L'Île-Rousse's 19th-century covered market and its harbor. Then you'll make a trip to Calvi to see the Genoese citadel and walk through the tight alleyways of the old town. Later in the day, you'll drive inland toward Corte, Corsica's historic capital, which sits in a mountain landscape with a fortress that overlooks everything. You'll stay 2 nights in this area.

- Day 4
Corte
You have options for how to spend your day in Corte. The historical museum inside the citadel covers Corsica's past and independence movement if you want cultural background. For something more active, you can hike into the Restonica valley heading toward Lake Melo, where the mountain views are considerable. Another choice is trekking along the Tavignano stream where you'll find spots to swim during the walk.

Corte to Ajaccio
The drive to Ajaccio takes you through mountain passes and the Laricio forest, then you'll settle into this coastal town, Napoleon's birthplace. Walk through the charming squares with their palm and plane trees, wander the alleyways, and check out Napoleon's childhood home and the Fesch art museum if history interests you. You can also stroll the beach promenade or shop and eat at local restaurants. The Îles Sanguinaires bays are worth a day trip if time allows.

Ajaccio to Propriano or Zonza
From Ajaccio you'll head south through rolling countryside and granite villages to Propriano, which sits in the beautiful Valinco bay. From here you can either relax or take a side trip into the mountains to Zonza, known as the 'Dolomites of Corsica' for its dramatic rocky peaks. The village of Levie is also nearby with an archaeological museum that covers the island's history.

Propriano or Zonza to Bonifacio
You'll drive through southern Corsica's rocky landscape toward Bonifacio, passing through Sarténe along the way. Bonifacio sits on top of a 60-meter chalk cliff overlooking the sea, and the fortified old town has steep alleyways with fantastic views down to the water. You can take a little train up to the upper town or walk the winding streets yourself. Boat trips to grottos are available if you want to explore by water. If you're staying in Porto Vecchio instead, you'll find wineries to visit or beaches to relax at.
