Transport and accommodation was good. The tour was fast paced and there were some very long days. It covers a lot of ground in a relatively short time and visits many very interesting places,. The tour stared off well with pick-up and transfer of hotels as scheduled but there was no information in the tour hotel about a morning start time or where to meet so we had to phone the emergency line to get this information. We met the friendly guide and other 20 passengers (most of whom had started the tour in Madrid) and set off next morning. Things went reasonably well for the next few days but there was a general lack of quality information from the guide. A group of Spanish-speakers joined the tour in Zurich and this changed the whole concept of the tour. Quite a bit of information was given in Spanish with less in English. English speakers at times were left in the dark. This reached a crisis point in Paris where the arrangements were a shambles. Guides and buses chopped and changed and there was no clear tour leader. All guides showed a clear preference to provide information in Spanish rather than English and to almost ignore the English speakers while having long one-on-one discussions with individual Spanish passengers. When information on times and locations were given in English they were often wrong or confusing. As one English-speaking couple said, "We might as well be on our own for all the reliable information we are getting". This problem continued until the end of the tour in London with some passengers getting on the wrong bus or waiting for 45 minutes past the advised time to catch a bus which turned out to have a different guide, In summary, the tour was potentially good but many days were too long (7am to 9.30pm) and there were no organised meal breaks on some days which meant that some passengers were not eating until after 10pm with no option but to use the hotel restaurant. We feel if the majority of passengers are Spanish-speakers this tour is not suitable for English-speakers and should not be advertised as such.
This was the best guided tour I have ever taken! Exodus organised every thing perfectly and my Guide Jeff was superb! Don’t underestimate the challenge of this tour, you should train for at least 3 months multi day hikes! There were members of the tour who had to drop out as a result of poor preparation. However, if you are ready you have to do this tour it was beyond amazing. The accommodation was homey and had character, the lessons you learn are priceless. Amazing journey!!

How do you get around France and Switzerland easily?
The fastest way is definitely taking those high-speed TGV trains that zip between the major cities in about 3-4 hours especially Paris to Geneva or Zurich. If you're after something really special though try the Gotthard Panorama Express it combines trains and boats through the Alps with amazing views of Lake Lucerne. For getting around locally you've got options - grab a Swiss Travel Pass that covers pretty much everything trains buses and mountain transport while in France the regional TER trains are great for hitting smaller spots like Annecy or Chamonix. And if you're heading Geneva to Chamonix the bus rides got these incredible Mont Blanc views.
What's the best way to see the Swiss Alps?
You've got so many ways to experience the Alps with Switzerland's amazing transport network. Take the Glacier 3000 cable car near Gstaad where you can walk across this incredible suspension bridge between peaks and there's snow all year round. Over in Grindelwald the First Cliff Walk gives you these dramatic viewpoints while Zermatt's totally car-free and perfect for Matterhorn views. The Jungfrau Railway's pretty special tunneling right through the Eiger to Europe's highest station at 3454m. Want something less touristy? Try Mount Pilatus near Lucerne you can ride the world's steepest cogwheel railway it's got this crazy 48% gradient and these amazing panoramic gondolas.
What kind of local experiences can visitors join in with?
There's way more than just making chocolate at Maison Cailler though you'll need to book that ahead. You can watch cheese being made the traditional AOP way at Le Chalet in Gruyères and explore wine cellars in Alsace where French and German traditions mix together. For something really unique try alphorn-making workshops in Lucerne or get hands-on with watchmaking in the Jura region. And don't miss those evening folk shows in Interlaken where you'll see traditional music and alpine horns in action.
What local food should you try?
When you're in France's Savoie region you've got to try tartiflette it's this amazing potato gratin with Reblochon cheese and raclette served the traditional way with half wheels of cheese. Swiss food changes depending where you are - German areas do great rösti and Zürich Geschnetzeltes while down in Italian-speaking Ticino you'll find mountain-style risotto and polenta. Around Lake Geneva try the local perch fillets and if you're there in winter the Vacherin Mont d'Or cheese is incredible. Keep an eye out for seasonal stuff too like Geneva's Longeole sausage or those double cream meringues from Gruyère.
How can you explore beyond the main cities?
The GoldenPass Line and Gotthard Panorama Express are brilliant for this they're regular trains but with this tourist experience built in connecting Lake Geneva right through to central Switzerland. You've got to check out the Lavaux vineyards they're UNESCO listed with these great marked trails between villages. The Bovine Route near Martigny follows these ancient shepherd paths and if you want a really local experience stay in mountain villages like Mürren or Champéry. E-bikes are fantastic too especially along the Rhone Route you can explore valley landscapes and historic towns without wearing yourself out.
