Itinerary
- Day 1
Stockholm
You'll arrive individually in Stockholm and settle into your accommodation in one of the city's suburbs. You have 2 nights here to get oriented and rest up before exploring the area.



- Day 2
Stockholm
Spend the day checking out Sweden's capital. Wander through Gamla Stan, Europe's largest and best-preserved medieval old town, with its winding alleyways featuring antique shops, handicrafts, galleries and cafés. Head up the City Hall tower for views over the old town and Stockholm's islands. You can also choose optional activities like the Vasa Museum, Skansen, the Royal Palace, a guided bike tour, or a boat trip to Drottningholm Palace.

- Day 3
Stockholm to Karlstad
You'll drive through the Stockholm lake district, passing castles and estates on the way to Örebro. There's an optional stop at Örebro Castle on a small island if you want. From there, head through the scenic Kilsbergen mountain range to Karlstad on Lake Väner. Check out the historic cathedral, theater and Östra Bron, Sweden's longest stone bridge. If you arrive early, you can swim in one of the bays along Sweden's largest lake.

- Day 4
Karlstad to Gothenburg
Travel west through Sweden's archipelago landscape with many islands. You'll see the Trollhättan waterfalls on the Göta River and the historic locks connecting the Göta Canal with Lake Väner, a 19th-century engineering accomplishment. Optionally visit the table mountains Halleberg and Hunneberg near Vänersberg or explore Orust, the largest island on Sweden's west coast. Then head to Gothenburg for a 2-night stay.

Gothenburg
Explore Gothenburg on Sweden's southwest coast. Take in the sights at Gustav-Adolfs-Torg and Göta Square with the Neptune Fountain, walk through the Botanical Gardens, and check out the lively old town with its market hall, historic facades, hip boutiques and cafés. You can optionally take a paddan tour on flat-bottomed boats that navigate the narrow canals and pass under the city's low bridges.

Gothenburg to Helsingborg
Drive south along miles of white sandy beaches toward the southern archipelago coast. You'll stop at Varberg Fortress and Falkenberg, then explore the Kullen nature reserve north of Helsingborg with its magnificent cliff coast, rock caves, beaches and hiking trails. See Scandinavia's brightest lighthouse on Kullaberg peninsula before arriving in Helsingborg. If you want, climb the Kärnan viewpoint at Stortorget for views over the city and Öresund strait.

Helsingborg to Lund
Head to Malmö on the Öresund. See the striking Turning Torso skyscraper and walk through the historic city center including Malmöhus Castle, Scandinavia's oldest surviving Renaissance castle from 1434, now home to the art museum and Malmö Museum. Stop at the Saluhall market hall for food, then wander through the modern Västra Hamnen district with its green spaces. Later, drive to Lund, a charming university city with cobbled streets, half-timbered houses, parks and cafés.

- Day 8
Lund to Karlshamn/Karlskrona
Travel to Ystad, the crime fiction hometown of Kurt Wallander, with half-timbered houses and a cozy market square. Visit Ales Stenar, a mysterious Viking ship settlement in Kåseberga with beautiful coastal cliffs. Then check out the idyllic town of Simrishamn and Stenshuvud National Park with its beech forests, alder swamps and sandy beaches. Continue through apple orchards and the scenic Boafalls Backe landscape to Karlshamn/Karlskrona, Sweden's only baroque city on approximately 33 islands.

- Day 9
Karlshamn/Karlskrona to Växjö
Head inland through Småland's landscape with countless lakes and forests. You can make a recommended detour to Kalmar and the largest Nordic Renaissance castle. Explore the famous glass kingdom with 13 glassworks, each producing their own unique Swedish art glass. Optionally visit one of Sweden's most beautiful moose parks in Nybro. End the day in Växjö, a university and abbey town on Lake Helga, where the collegiate church has an impressive altar cabinet made of glass art.

Växjö to Nykköping
Experience the romantic Småland associated with author Astrid Lindgren. Start in Eksjo, a 600-year-old wooden town where alleyways and courtyards feel frozen in time. Continue to Vimmerby, Lindgren's hometown, to visit the Astrid Lindgren Museum in Näs and the theme park. Later, arrive in Nykoping, a historic coastal town on the Baltic coast.
