- Day 1
Chiang Mai
You'll arrive at Chiang Mai Airport where someone will meet you and drive you to your hotel. The rest of the day is yours to do what you'd like. Wander around the old town if you're feeling up for it, check out the walled streets and local artisan shops, grab some food from the stalls, or just settle in at your hotel. The night market is also worth a visit if you're interested in seeing handicrafts and local snacks.

- Day 2
Chiang Mai
After breakfast, you'll head out on a half-day city tour. First stop is Wat Phra That Doi Suthep, sitting 3,500 feet above the city with great views from up there. You'll climb the 306 steps of the Naga staircase to reach the copper-plated Chedi with its gold top. Then you'll visit Wat Suan Dok, which has a flower garden and large central Stupa, and also Wat Chedi Luang where the impressive Chedi dates back to 1411.

- Day 3
Lampang - Sukhothai
Starting with breakfast, you'll drive to Lamphun to see Wat Phra That Hariphunchai, a golden temple with roots going back to the eighth-century Mon Kingdom. Next is Lampang and Wat Phra That Lampang Luang. After lunch, the drive heads south through nice scenery toward Sukhothai Historical Park, arriving in the late afternoon. You'll get some time to look around the UNESCO World Heritage Site with its ancient ruins from Sukhothai, the first kingdom capital.

- Day 4
Ayutthaya
Begin early by joining locals in offering food to Buddhist monks during their morning alms round. Then drive south and stop for lunch in Chai Nat. You'll follow the historic route from Sukhothai through Uthai Thani down to Ayutthaya, and once you arrive, visit Ayutthaya Historical Park to see Wat Phra Si Sanphet and the adjacent Viharn Phra Mongkol Bophit with its golden Buddha. Later check out Wat Phra Mahathat with the famous Buddha head wrapped in tree roots. It's a UNESCO World Heritage Site with lots of heritage structures to explore.

Kanchanaburi
After breakfast, drive through farmland to Kanchanaburi, a quiet town where two rivers meet. You'll see the World War II Death Railway Bridge from the famous film, plus the war cemetery and the Thailand-Burma Railway Centre to learn about what POWs and laborers went through. The afternoon is free to relax or do whatever you'd like around town.

Bangkok
Leave Kanchanaburi after breakfast and drive toward Nakhon Pathom to visit the temple with the 127-meter Phra Pathommachedi stupa, the tallest of its kind worldwide. Then head to Damnoen Saduak for its famous floating markets with dozens of boats selling fresh fruit, vegetables, and local food. You'll experience the sights and sounds of traditional Thai life before driving to Bangkok to check in at your hotel.

Bangkok
After breakfast, you'll tour Bangkok's three major Buddhist temples. Start at the Royal Grand Palace, used as a royal residence from the 1700s through the mid-1900s and Thailand's most visited royal site. Next is Wat Pho, the oldest temple in Bangkok with its giant golden reclining Buddha and a massage school. Then see Wat Traimit and its 5.5-tonne Golden Buddha statue. The evening is free, so you could get a traditional massage, try local food, or watch the sunset from a rooftop bar.
